what the zooming capacity for a 18-55 mm dslr camera lenses?

suresh

i mean the optical zooming capacity? What is the closest thing it can focus?

Answer
The zoom capacity (a term usually used in compact p&s cameras) is 3x as 3 x 18mm = 54mm. As for closest focus, this is the information for the Nikon 18-55mm. Other brands may be similar.

Close Focus: 11" (0.28m) from the back of the camera. This is 4.5" (11.5cm) from the front of the lens.

Digital Cameras?

dillon p

I am really stumped.. okay yahoo answers. Im getting into photography, and one thing that has got me for many years is cameras. Most cameras i have used are the ones you hold the button down and after 2 seconds of waiting, it snaps and takes a picture. I am really confused on my uncle's cameras. He's a large expert photographer and his cameras seem to just click and shoot. is there a such digital camera that all you have to do it point, click (not even a wait time practically, like .05 of a second) and click perfect high quality picture. seriously! im really stumped. i know those disposable cameras do it, but they arent digital and the ones that are you have to hold down for how ever long it takes. In video games like dead rising frank's camera is just point and click and the picture is saved .001 seconds after it snaps. am i just retarded and there is no camera that can do this or am i half right and theres so weird thing you can do or some expensive camera you can buy that does this?

Answer
Yes.

DSLR cameras are the digital body that fits all the lenses that 35 mm SLR cameras have been using for decades (like your uncle's)

What you are experiencing is called shutter lag and all P&S cameras have it, some worse than others.

The least expensive DSLR at this time is the Nikon D40 with 18-55 mm lens for under $470. That said, look for a camera that will use your uncles lenses ... then as you two go out shooting together, you can share lenses.
