Help with finding the right dslr camera lens?

dslr camera with fixed lens on ... D3200 BLACK DSLR Twin Lens Kit 18-55mm 55-300mm VR Digital SLR Camera
dslr camera with fixed lens image

Jackie

I'm looking into buying my first dslr camera but I'm kind of confused on what kind of lens to get. I'm looking for something with a really good zoom and I know for a point and shoot camera I'd want something that is over a 20x Zoom so what would this equal to for a dslr lens? I hope this makes sense, I don't know much about dslr cameras.

Answer
The most common kit lens is 18-55mm
which translates to 55/18 = 3.05x zoom

Nikon makes a 18-300mm, which translates to 16.67x zoom
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/18-300mm.htm

A 300mm fixed focus lens means 0x zoom
http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/3004af.htm

You are looking at proper DSLR's & they dont operate the same way as point & shoots

Which lens should I buy for my first DSLR camera?

Q. I am going to buy my very first DSLR camera in a few months. It's probably going to be a Nikon D90 or D7000. Problem is, I absolutely have no idea about lenses! I would really appreciate it if you can help me out a bit.

Answer
Normally the standard lenses that come with the cameras are good for beginners.
My Dad brought his first DSLR a few years back and the standard lens has seen more use than both the wide-angle and telephoto lens he purchased too.
My ex also brought a D90 last year and has only ever used the standard lens, which is quite decent.

A 'Nifty-fifty' (a 50mm fixed focal lens) is often brought by beginners, you can get use to taking photographs without relying on the zoom on the lens. These can start reasonably cheaply, and go way into the hundreds for a good one with a low f. stop.

Depending on what you want to do with your camera a wide-angle lens can be useful, there are several companies that make lenses designed to fit to Nikons and Canons, and are often much cheaper than the manufacturers own lenses (though, they may not be as to such a high quality)

Telephoto zoom lenses are good if you are interested in wildlife photography, or photography in which you are going to be a long distance from the subject. However, for a decent one of these you are looking at several hundred pounds, going into the thousands if you require a top - end one.

I would suggest sticking to the basic camera lens at the beginning and see how your photographs turn out. If you realise you like taking more wide-angle shots, then perhaps try a wide-angle lens, and vice-versa for the telephoto.

There are lots of different lenses out there, so I'm sure you'll have lots of fun!!

There are also places where you can hire camera equipment, so it can sometimes to 'try before you buy'. If you borrow a lens for a weekend, and decide you don't like it, it is much cheaper than buying a new lens and then realising.

What kind of camera lens should I get?

James

I'm completely new to this stuff but I got the Canon 600D without a lens, my family already has this Tamron 28-200mm lens, but I dont know about it - it's old. My use of the camera will be for a tour of France (mainly on foot, so the more compact the better). I'd like to take some long shots, but also just the average touristy-type shots.

Answer
If the Tamron 28-200mm has an EF mount, you will be just fine.

If it is an FD or FL:mount, you will need an adapter and the make your fine 600D into a fully manual camera (exposure and focus) and perhaps worse, you lose a stop of light and the lens will not focus at infinity (needed for those long shots

Depending upon where you are on the course, the Canon EF-S 18-200 mm or Canon EF-S 10-22 mm will be preferred. I hope we can assume you know your location you will be shooting so you pick the correct lens

Is the Canon 600d worth the extra money rather than buying the Canon 550d?

Tomek

I don't know whether I should save the money and get an extra lens with the 550d or should I get the 600d.

Answer
No not really, I have a Canon EOS 550D and am extremely impressed with it. This camera takes fantastic photos! Rather get the 550D and save up for another lens.
The 600D is pretty much the same camera, although it does have a flip out screen.

Have a look at these two websites:
- http://www.digitalrev.com/en/canon-eos-600d-vs-550d---is-it-really-better-8274-article.html

They are both comparing the cameras.

In the end, you are going to want to buy another lens, so get the 550D. When buying the 600D camera you are going to get the same 18-55mm lens as you would on the 550D.

Good luck with what ever you choose!

How to record and take pictures at a Color Run?

Alexa

Hey guys.
This Sunday I'm going to a 5k Color Me Rad run. I am really into photography and videography. I run a YouTube channel with my cousin, so recording our experience is crucial. But how do we do it? I could put the camera in plastic bags, but wouldn't it be hard to see? We do not have a go pro. We are saving up for one, but we definitely won't have the money before Sunday. Please help! This is really important to me and I have no idea how to go about it.
Help!

Answer
Don't do it unless you can seal the camera. Look at this link to convince you:
http://petapixel.com/2013/05/08/photographing-a-color-run-will-destroy-your-camera-gear-dont-do-it/

If you have a small camera, you can make a bag for the camera, but the plastic is going to be bad for the lens, so you really want to get a bit of glass to shoot through, and then tape the whole thing up, what a pain.

If you have a small camera, you can buy this, get it shipped overnight, and have 'some' confidence that your camera gear will not get ruined.

What is a good camera for a beginning photographer? With a $50-$150 price range?

Jesse

I'm a college freshmen and photography is my life. I havent taken 1 photography class yet, but will in January 2013. I was looking for a good camera, not to cheap and not to expensive, because I don't like taking pictures with my iPod. Anyone have information, please comment below. thanks!

Answer
If by photography, you mean taking complete control of the camera, choosing the lens aperture, shutter speed and lens, then the camera that falls into your budget, would be a good used 35 mm SLR. You can find them on craigslist in a city near you for under $100. Nikon and Canon 35 mm SLR cameras are most plentiful and account for over 60% of all dSLR's sold.

With a budget of $50-$150, you cannot find any dSLR camera and digital P&S cameras start at $125.

Here is a link that might help you find a $125-$150

I have a Canon T2i and it is my birthday. I get to buy an lens, which one do you prefer?

best canon macro lens for t2i image

Walid Q

I have the the 18-55 mm lens, and the macro lens 55-250mm

I like to take pictures of people, zoom in shots of nature, and action shots.

What is out there that I could buy for my camera? And ideas?

Answer
You could probably do all that with the Canon 100f2.8L Macro IS. My first lens after the 18-55 kit was the 70-200f4L IS. Excellent piece of glass which can be used for almost anything including landscapes. Use Zoombrowser to see what end of the focal range you shoot most of your shots from and go from there. My 3 least used lenses are the Samyang 14f2.8, the Canon 15f2.8 fisheye and the Canon 16-35f2.8L II. Not for any particular reason, they're great lenses, I just prefer my longer lenses with the 100-400 being my favorite.
P.S. If you decide on the shorty forty which is good for the price, and it seizes up while you're using it on your T2i, simply release it from the camera then lock it back into place, that'll fix the problem. Took me a while to work that out.

How to use a macro lens?

!~T@R@~!

I just got a brand new macro lens for my canon t2i camera, any tips on how to use it and take the best photographs with it?

Answer
You need lots of light or a dedicated macro light.
Use a tripod.
Start off inside - outside the slightest breeze makes life difficult.
Use as small an aperture as you can manage.
Start off with inanimate subjects - bugs move too fast.
Use manual focus and move your subject (if possible) instead of the camera.
Get a macro rail if you can (one day I'll get on of those, too http://www.google.com.au/search?q=macro+rail&hl=en&safe=off&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=v8_3Tp68KrCziQek_LGgAQ&ved=0CFQQsAQ&biw=1208&bih=829).
Be very aware of your super thin DOF.
Consider focus stacking.

Practice lots.

Q. What is best lens for canon 550d for fully body shots and half body any help would be great!

Answer
I would say Canon 50 mm f 1.8. It's cheap (under a hundred), and will be good for half body shot.

For full body shot, you'd have to step back a bit. At least it's not going to give you distortion if you're close to the subject (compared to a wider lens).

Try it with your kit lens. Set it at 50 mm. Is that a good coverage?

im hoping to modify a hiking bag so that i can carry essentials too, other than my camera.

The bag should have some kind of hiking pole strap bigenough for my tripod if need bee (about the size of 3 hiking poles)

If you mean as checked luggage then none of that will be a problem.

If you mean as carry-on, the largest bag you can take would be about the size of a small backpack.

Not all airlines have the same baggage policies, but this is typical:

The temperature of the place im travelling to is about 10 degree celcius.

Will the cold temperature damage the camera lens or stg like that?

Im not a pro so I only have a dslr with one lens attached. I dont have any more extra lenses.

Thank you.

Answer
10 deg C isn't cold and won't cause any camera problems. In fact cooler temperatures are better for the sensor, or the image quality because it makes the sensor less noisy. Hot days make things worse in that respect.

You get most problems going from hot and humid to cold or cold to hot and humid as the camera can fog up up internally. If the temperature is reasonably constant there are generally few problems. Very cold (below zero) shortens battery life.

How do I carry my digital camera and equipment on the plane?

Traveling and will take camera, lens, batteries, charger and extra batteries, how do I know the regulations on these items and I want to have them as carryon, In the U.S

Answer
travelling from canada to the states was fine bringing a digital camera in carryon on the plane. they just ask you not to turn it on when taking off and landing, same goes for laptops and cell phones. Just show the customs ppl who check you becuase it is metal. I think you are only llowed to carry on batteries that are in a device, so dont carry on an extra pack of them. If your still unsure about it, id say call the airport just in case. worst comes to worst, just throw it in your suitcase at the airport.

I need to buy a new camera, I want a work horse. But I can't decide between these two cameras. I'm a Nikon fan-boy at heart, but the mark III is one helluva camera. I already possess a number of lenses for Nikon and Canon so that's not an issue. Which would you pick and why?

Answer
Hang on for a couple of months I've got a feeling Canon is about to announce a new fullframe soon. Rumor? No, its just that my dealer has dropped the price of the 5DM3 down to $2858 and its not even Xmas, something is afoot.

P.S. I don't normally respond to fools but whoever gave the thumbs down, put up or shut up!

where can i buy Nikon stuff and camera gear in the Philippines?

Alex Summe

not just an electronics shop; a real Nikon outlet or a store where i can find cameras, lenses and other Nikon stuff.

anyone?
i live in Quezon City btw.

Answer
Columbia Digital is the (absolutely only) official Philippine distributor of Nikon. If you buy your Nikon somewhere else (literally) and bring it to them for servicing, you will be charge an arm and a leg. Really.

There may be other branches (I'm sure) but the only store I know is in Hidalgo St. beside Quiapo church. If you're facing the front of the church at Plaza Miranda, that's the street to your left. No not that one, the other one, closer to your back. You'll know you hit the right street when you'll see cameras and lenses and cameras and lenses in each store.

I own a Fujifilm Finepix S3280 24x zoom camera and just got a Canon Rebel t3i DSLR camera. What are equivalent DSLR lens settings for the zoom factor on the Fujifilm camera? I have a couple of additional lenses for the DSLR, but want to compare "apples to apples". Thanks.

Answer
Once you left the P&S arena, you have got to buy different lenses to cover similar focal lengths to your S3280

The zoom lens with the most range would be the 18-200 mm lens (11x) in P&S terms.

I can use four lenses on my dSLR to produce the most focal lengths usually needed when shooting assignments

* 14-24 mm
* 24-70 mm
* 70-200 mm
* 200-400 mm

In P&S terms, those lenses equal about 28x

If you visit this site, you will see what it costs to purchase those four lenses.

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Camera-Lenses/All-Lenses/index.page

When you went from owning a P&S to a dSLR system, you certainly jumped into the deep end of the photographic pool

Will a 400mm zoom take good pictures from the top balcony at the United Center during a hockey game?

ComeAtMeBr

I go to Blackhawks games a lot (I'm obsessed with Jonathan Toews :D) and I am currently looking for a high quality DSLR camera and possibly lens. From high up, will a 400 mm zoom take high quality pictures from a very far distance? Also, if you have any camera suggestions, let me know!

Answer
No. Even if you were willing to drop $10,000 on a 400mm f/2.8 prime, your pictures from the balcony wouldn't be as good as the ones you'll see the next day in the paper. They might not even let you in carrying a setup like that. Just enjoy being there!

If you must do this, my advice is rent a DSLR and lens rather than buying. In Chicago, your best bet is Progear. Just call them up and talk to a tech, and they'll point you in the right direction in terms of what gear you need. I'll warn you, though, that they might (like me) just tell you to enjoy the game.

What features should a digital camera have to take good low light and night shots?

best camera lens under 500 on Best Dslr For Video 2012 Under 500
best camera lens under 500 image

matters

Are there any cameras that you would recommend that cost under $500?

Answer
I disagree with those suggesting cameras with high ISO. Many consumer cameras (those in your price range) advertise high ISO ranges (usually to 1600, 3200, 6400... even a whopping 10,000 with the Olympus FE-250!). While it sounds great, point and shoot cameras preform TERRIBLY at these high ISO levels. You'll get a blotchy, smudged, and noisy mess. It's a marketing ploy -- most point and shoots can't produce desirable or printable results over ISO 400 (only a few are an exception to this). Check the samples at review sites like http://www.dcresource.com/ and http://www.dpreview.com/ to see what I mean.

So, in my opinion the most important features for effective night shots are:
- a good flash for close subjects
- a fast lens, if possible
- a tripod mount and a sturdy tripod
- manual shutter speed and ISO control

Higher ISOs should only be used when a slow shutter speed isn't suited for your particular concept (i.e. action or sports shots).

With your budget, there are a couple of entry model dSLRs that you can afford that can do many times better, but aren't entirely necessary (in no particular order):
- Pentax K100D / K100D Super
- Nikon D40
- Canon Digital Rebel XT

What type of camera should I get to start a head shot, portrait business?

The Dance

Want to spend under $500, and that is with the camera case. I had used a Canon Rebel 2000 SLR before, then it was stolen. I want to learn the shutter speeds and also have the ability to be able to use the point and shoot. Not sure what else I need, except a tripod. The camera I had before was film, I prefer at this time a digital.

Answer
Any FF digital SLR camera will do. I recommend a minimum of a Canon 5D. Unfortunately, they are twice your budget without a lens.

There really is nothing at $500 that will stand the rigors of pro use and give the image quality that your clients deserve.

You also need to think about lighting, accounting software/CPA fees, backgrounds, reflectors, website, liability insurance, advertising, studio space, props, etc. The camera is just a mechanic's wrench or a doctor's scalpel. There is so much more to consider than just the camera.

Which is a good semi professional camera and lens to buy?

best canon lens for portraits image

Deepu

I am teaching myself photography as a hobby and would like to make it my second profession eventually. I would like to go in for a DSLR camera (second hand (body only) costing around 400 dollars (300euros)) and a good lens for portrait and landscape.

I would prefer a Nikon or a Canon camera. Please advice.

Answer
You can find the lens best suited for portrait by visiting the canon web site. Also the Landscape lens (a wide angle) is NOT the same as a portrait lens.

Why don't you buy the cheapest camera with a short (range) zoom lens and go from their. Then you could have your scenic lens at one end and your portrait lens at the other end!

Can a 100mm macro lens be used for landscape and family portraits?

fiber

I'm thinking of buying a 100mm Canon macro lens. But I also need a lens to take some family photos of 50 or so people (either wide angle or from far away). Can I use the same 100mm macro lens for both? Any pros/cons?

Answer
A 100mm macro lens on any Canon dSLR with an APS-C format sensor (any non-professional Canon digital SLR let's say) will have a crop factor of 1.6x. That means that a 100mm lens on a Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel (just a random example) would actually be equivalent to a 160mm lens. In general, that focal length isn't going to be very useful for wide landscape photography or photos of large groups, but it would likely take very nice portraits of 1-3 people. That focal length is often considered part of the nice ranges of portrait lenses (around 85mm-180mm).

In a word though - "Nah" - that's not a good lens for both applications that you're interested in. Even at a straight 100mm you probably won't find an experienced photographer who will bless anything over, say, 35mm on the high end (no crop factor) for landscape/large group photos. On an APC-S sensor that would be about 17mm-18mm, which is quite common on zoom lenses now.

I have a Canon Powershot S2 1S. If I want to purchase a lens for it that has a 58mm filter, does it mean that I need a 58 mm adapter? How do I determine the size for an adapter and whether or not the lens is compatible with my camera, using the adapter? (For example, I want a telephoto zoom lens that is a canon EF lens 75-300mm. The filter size is 58mm. Will this fit my camera, with the use of an adapter?) Thank you.

Answer
No.

The Canon PowerShot S2 IS is a fixed lens bridge camera. The Canon EF f/4-5.6 75-300mm is an EF bayonet-mount lens for use with Canon's EOS SLRs and DSLRs.

The only type of lenses compatible with your S2 are conversion lenses. These are the add-on teleconverters, wide angle converters, and fisheye converters that screw onto the filter threads of your camera.

Are girls recording us guys while we get a peek?

How to protect the camera lens on the galaxy s4 against scratches ?

Lester

I'm worried about the camera lens getting scratches , and can getting scratches affect image quality

Answer
The "lens" you see isn't really the camera lens. Obviously the phone carriers have thought about how many scratches you would get on the lens and already did something about it. They that little glass thing on it. Whether it's glass or whatever it is, it's not the lens, it's just the lens covering. That's why you can get a fingerprint and you can't really tell when you take the photo. But if you want to protect that, which usually should be fine, then you would have to buy one of those full body plastic screen covers. They would cover the entire phone in a plastic wrap almost. Basically it's just putting screen protectors all over your phone and they should also cover the camera lens cover from scratches and other things like dust. But that might actually affect the camera quality because the plastic on the lens might distort the image, but it can be removed easily.

I'm looking to go into photography and I was wondering what camera would be best for a beginner.I'm really not looking for anything way to expensive and debating between SLR and Non SLR.
Thank You :)

Answer
I think you should invest a DSLR camera. It is an investment but it can be well worth it. DSLR cameras have the larger sensor so you get a higher quality images. You can change lenses which can be valuable, by allowing to adjust to different needs.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start. No reason to spend more than $425 to $550. Either a 10MP or 12MP (MP means mega pixels) will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links, the first link listed below is to a web page that lists the 3 DSLR cameras I am recommending. This list will let you compare features and specs, also it has links to reviews of the cameras, the reviews include sample images from the cameras. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some dealers have some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:

Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449
Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

Pick a price range, some features you know you want, and even consider which camera feels good in your hand as a factor. Plenty of great cameras, get one you like and start learning the principles of photography and you will be on your way to making some great images.

If you want to stay under $500 then go Nikon or Canon but, I think the Pentax could be of special interest, since it can do HD video and has excellent quality at higher ISO settings which can be useful in low light places and helping get the picture. These features, especially the HD video, on a Nikon or Canon will cost you $100 to $200 more.

If you have any questions and if you think I can be of help then please do contact me.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

Any suggestions for a really good professional photography camera?

Sara B

I'm thinking about possibly going to school for photography so i need a good camera. I've asked around but everyone tells me something different as far as what their favorites are. I'm so confused and honestly overwhelmed by all the different brands and models out there. I just want a nice camera that I can take everywhere and play around with and as i mention possibly take me through photography school. Any suggestions?
I'm willing to spend up to $2,500. Possibly $3,000.

Answer
You don't need us to tell you which camera. Go to a camera store and try them out. Would you buy a car without taking it for a test drive to see how it feels? When buying a camera it is just as important to get a feel for it. I don't like the small DSLRs because I have big hands and it feels awkward to hold one. You may have small hands which might feel awkward holding a large camera. Then there is the layout of the buttons. You may prefer one manufacturer's set-up over another. You really should try them out. This might help you decide who to go with-Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, etc.

Next, you need to decide which lens(es) will best suit you. That will be determined by your usual subject matter. Do you want to do portraits? Then a normal to short telephoto prime with a large max aperture like a 50/1.4 (on a smaller sensor) or an 85/1.4 (on a full frame sensor) would be good. Or do you want to shoot landscapes and cityscapes? Then a wide angle lens would be good for you. Or if you want to shoot wildlife or sports you will need a long to super telephoto. Or, do you not know yet what kind of shootin you might like? Then a zoom in the wide to telephoto range would do well to play around with while you find your style.

Once you know which lens you want, and have budgeted for a camera bag or case, and memory cards, and perhaps an extra battery, then you will know how much you can spend on the camera body. Suppose that the lens(es) and other accessories would come to $2000, then you would know that you could spend $500-1000 on the camera body. If you know which manufacturer you want to go with, then you just have to figure out which body within your budget is right for you.

Now, some things that may be important depending upon your use of the camera:

aps-c or ff-ff is full frame. The sensor in a full frame DSLR is about the same size as the frame in 35mm film. The aps-c sensor is maybe half that size. A ff camera will offer better resolution and is generally preferred by landscape photographers but they are also quite expensive. The aps-c is a very good and useful camera for any kind of shooting though. Just remember that with the lenses some are ff and some are for aps-c sized sensors. If you put an aps-c lens on a ff DSLR or 35mm SLR you will get vignetting but you can generally use them that way if you don't mind the vignetting in the corners. You can use a ff lens on any of the three.

fps-frames per second-this is important if you are going to want to shoot several consecutive shots. Very useful for sports photography. Not so much for wildlife and landscape shooters.

MP-megapixels-with a DSLR this number isn't as critical. So don't worry too much about it. I know there are people still shooting 6mp DSLRs. Personally, I would shoot for 8-12 but don't put too much stock in it. The size of the sensor and pixels is more important than the number of pixels.

IS-image stabilization-some cameras have it and some don't and then some lenses have it and some don't. It isn't critical, but it is sometimes nice.

ISO range-most DSLRs have something starting around 100 and going up to about 1600. Some go up to 6400 and a few even go up to the 20,000s. But most DSLRs don't handle very well above 1600 without getting serious noise.

You should also consider that most colleges offer both film and digital photography classes. Sometimes you have to start with film before you can move on to digital classes. This means you would have to buy a film SLR as well. Once you have the specifics on the DSLR worked out, and if you will need a film SLR, be on the look out for one that will work with your digital set-up so you can use the lens(es) on both cameras. In fact, if you get some lenses with a film SLR, you could also use them on the DSLR.

Don't let it get you flustered, it is really simple to pick out a camera when you just take a deep breath and relax and get some hands on experience with many different brands and models.

Have fun.

Thanks 4 ur suggestions in advance.

Answer
@Camera guy-it looks as if English may be a second language for the OP, but I'm not sure.

As far as a lens, it really depends on where you're going and what you'll be doing. If you will mostly do scenic shots, landscapes, cityscapes, then I recommend a wide angle lens like a 10-22mm or 12-24mm. It will make for much more dynamic shots.

But if you will be doing mostly street style photography, cafes, people, markets, then something like a 35mm or 50mm might be more appropriate.

Or, if you will be shooting a lot of wildlife, then you are going to want at least a 200mm focal length, so perhaps the 70-200. But it might still leave you wanting a little more reach.

Where can I buy a DSLR camera condensation bag?

best humidity for camera lens on ... Camera, 12.1MP, 4x Optical Zoom 28-112mm Lens, 3.0-inch Color LCD
best humidity for camera lens image

Natalie

I've been searching for them but i cant find one?
"camera condensation bag" is what i searched for. Its for when you take your camera outside in the snow, ice, humidity, etc and it will prevent condensation from getting in the lens and mirror.
I already thought to use a plastic bag with gel pouch, but I wanted something that would allow the pictures to be clearer. Since the lens would be inside the bag too. It wouldn't turn out very well I wouldn't think.

Answer
No Natalie, camera doesn't have to be in the bag when you take pictures. The idea is to seal camera in the bag and let it sit in cold for 20-30 mins, then you can remove the bag and use your camera.
Repeat the procedure when you get back to a warmer place.
I live in Finland and in winters it can be as cold as -30C, and if I have to go out shooting I put my whole camera bag in refrigerator for 15 mins and then in freezer for 15 mins again, and then I can go shoot without any major problem, I don't even use the plastic bag.

What's a good digital camera with a fisheye that can shoot both pictures & videos to get?

best slr lens video on USA Canon EOS 7D + 5 Lens SLR Kit: 18-135 IS, 75-300, 50mm + 24GB #1 ...
best slr lens video image

J-Mi

I really want to get a fisheye camera that can shoot both pictures & videos. However I don't exactly have the budget to buy an expensive SLR + a fisheye lens. So I was wondering if there's a cheaper camera option out there.

Answer
There really are NO "fisheye" cameras but for the LOMO fisheye versions of that toy camera and obviously, being a film camera, it cannot capture digital images nor can it shoot video.

P&S cameras do NOT come with fisheye lenses, nor can any add-on fisheye lens be purchased for them.

That means you will have to buy an entry level dSLR that has a video feature (like the Nikon D3100 - $700 and 10.5 mm fisheye - $775 / Tokina 10-17 mm fisheye zoom - $600 or Canon 500D/T1i - $750 and generic fisheye zoom - Tokina 10-17 mm fisheye zoom - $600)

As you can see, you will need to start saving your pennies to get what you want.

What photo filter was used in this video?

What type of filter for an SLR lens would give me the same effect? I know this was shot with a Canon SLR, but what filters may have been used? Or if possible, what filter WAS used in this video? I like the muted effect and how the sky is a creamy yellow.

Answer
Simply over exposed outside the car (the person driving was properly exposed, when was the last time the inside of a car was the same brightness of broad daylight?) and the white balance was off a bit.

No filters needed.

If you have a Canon dSLR and can shoot RAW then you can do this in Canon's DPP.
Select Color Temperature for white balance and dial in the color that you're after.

How do I make my 28-135 canon lens wider?

best canon lens zoom on Canon 400mm - canon camera bag
best canon lens zoom image

Fred Salis

I have an 18-55mm canon lens. I bought a new 28-135 lens, but I want to get it down to the 18mm range so I can get rid of the other lens. Is there a way to do this? Is there a wide angle lens that can drop this 10mm? It looks like a ton on ebay, but i'm afraid it would either kill my quality or give me a fish eye lens. Any help in the right direction would be appreciated!

Answer
You need to buy a 10-22 mm wide angle zoom

You really need to take at least one class in photography to understand why your question shows your lack of understanding of the fundamentals of photography.

You seem to be one of those people who are intelligent, but uninformed. A class will clear up a lot of misconceptions.

What is the difference between an 18-55 mm zoom lens and a 19-35 mm one?

Sherry R

These are both canon zoom lenses. One says CANON ZOOM LENS EF-S 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 and the other says PHOENIX 19 - 35 mm 1:3.5 - 4.5 AF ZOOM 77.

Also, which is the best for photographing crime scenes and evidence? Thanks!

Answer
one goes from 18-55 and the other from 19-35

the canon one is probably better quality and more expensive...
