What is the best professional camera?

best camera lens landscape photography on Olympus Waterproof Camera
best camera lens landscape photography image

WeAreOne

What is the best quality/performance digital SLR camera?
Also, what is the best lens? I primarily do landscape and nature photography, but also like to photograph people too.
I have a canon xsi right now.

Answer
The "best camera" might not be the best camera for you. Indeed the top of the line Nikon and Canon cameras have been listed, though of course Leica probably makes the best cameras and lenses for smaller cameras... but do you really "need" them. For the vast majority of amateurs, a 4 megapixel camera will do fine. That will produce a good 11x14, and maybe even 16x20 if you have correct exposure, etc.

As far as lenses, Leica, Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, Zeiss, all create great lenses. Other good quality lenses are made by Olympus, Minolta, Fuji, Tamron, Sigma, etc. I'd stay away from other lenses. Even great manufacturers can have a dog lens or two in their inventory. Check out:
DPreview.com
kenrockwell.com
or others.

Landscapes- are frequently created with a wide angle lens in the 18-35 range, though some use telephoto lens.
Nature- will require a lens in the 200-400mm range.
People- 70-200mm is a standard for most portrait photographers.

What are the essentials for photography?

booboo_921

Digital cameras that will accept SLR long lens?

I have two good SLR 35mm cameras that appear to have been made obsolete by the newer digital cameras. Along with my cameras, I have two long lens. Is there a reasonably priced digital camera that will accept the fittings on my long lens so I can take long shots without having to get an expensive digital camera that does have that capability?

Answer
If your 35mm cameras are Nikon - the lenses will fiot Nokon digital.
If your lenses are Canon EOS (EF) then they will fit Canon digital.
If your lenses are Canon FD or FL they will not fit any digital
If they are 42mm screw fit they won't fit any digital.

If they are Pentax K - I think (not sure!) they will fit Pentax digital.

What are some good cameras on the market ?

I want to buy a new camera for my up coming vacation. I don't know what brand is best. I would like a long lens with it. I don't really want to spend more then $1000. So I'm hoping someone can help with recommending a camera for me. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Nikon Coolpix L20

Nikonâs new Coolpix L20 and its 10.0 effective megapixels, 3.6x zoom and a bright, high-resolution 3.0-inch LCD screen. Motion Detection automatically detects subject movement and adjusts the shutter speed and ISO to compensate for camera shake and minimize image blur. The cameraâs Easy Auto Mode with Scene Auto Selector simplifies your picture-taking experience by letting camera automatically select the best setting to get great pictures. Nikonâs Smart Portrait System combines four different technologies that will fix red-eye, detect faces, fire the shutter when your subject smiles and warn you if they blink, to get you great portraits.

Okay so I am 13, a girl, and I really love photography. I was supposed to get my first DSLR camera for Christmas but I don't know what kind to get.
My friend got a Sony a580 or something like that and the pictures are awesome. Except then I heard that Sony isn't as food as Canon and Nikon, since it's new. I was going to get the same camera as my friend because I'm not sure if I need like a bajillion different lenses that Canon and Nikon have.
I was going to get the Samsung ST550, a digital camera that was dual screen, because I heard it has a great "beauty" feature. And I wish that they made a DSLR that also had a beauty feature, because I'm not getting the Samsung. And it's not like I can just bring a DSLR camera to school and take pictures with my friends, so I'm using my iPhone 4 as my "digital" camera. Or like a camera I can take anywhere. I like to take pictures of random things, ahahaha. Self portraits for Facebook profile pictures, my dog, babies and toddlers from church, nature, and flowers, and jumping/moving pictures. And over Spring Break, our whole entire extended family is going to Hawaii and I want to take pictures, and I don't think my phone will cut it.
So what DSLR camera should I get? And I probably wont get a lot of lenses.

I want the Sony a580.
Model Features: 16.2MP, Exmor⢠APS sensor, 1080/60i Full HD movies, two types of Live View, Face Detection, 3D Sweep Panorama, tiltable 3.0" LCD, up to 7 fps continuous shooting, 18-55mm DT zoom lens included.

Sony a55.
Model Features: 16.2MP, Translucent Mirror Technologyâ¢, Quick AF Full HD Movie, GPS tagging, Live View with Phase detection, 10 fps, 15-point auto focus, 18-55mm zoom lens included.

Sony a35
Model Features: 16.2MP, Translucent Mirror Technologyâ¢, Quick AF Full HD Movie, Main sensor Live View with Phase detection, Face Detection, 3D Sweep Panorama, 3.0" LCD, up to 7 fps continuous shooting, 18-55 zoom lens included.

So it's up to those 3. You can suggest another brand/model.anything!

Answer
Well. you're proving my point. Sony is very good at marketing cameras with just the right feature set to appeal to the uninformed bebinner.

It all depends. If you want to get serious about photography then look at a nikon d3100 with an 18-105 lens. If you want to stay in the "let\s keep it on full auto and pump out a steady stream of shots typical for my age" then any DSLR will do and sony will add the bonus of perhaps the best liveview system

Sony SLT a35 is it any good?

Is it a good camera? Because i really want a DSLR but i cant find the right one for me. I am looking for one between $500-$1000 which why it think the a35 would be perfect. I was just wondering if it was any good?

Answer
The Sony SLT A35 is an upgrade of the earlier SLT A33. However, the SLT A65 is an even more advanced version of the A35.

Here is a hands-on preview of the SLT A65:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA65/AA65A.HTM

Here is a review of the SLT A35:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/AA35/AA35A.HTM

Yes, the SLT A65 is more expensive.

Sony SLT A65 w/18-55mm zoom lens, $999.99 at B&H.
Sony SLT A35 w/18-55mm zoom lens, $699.99 at B&H.
B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com

By using Translucent Mirror Technology in their SLT series Sony has eliminated the decades old moving mirror still used by Nikon and Canon in their comparably-priced DSLR cameras. The TMT allows for full-time phase-detect auto focus whether you're shooting still pictures or 1080p HD video. Although Canon and Nikon have models that allow for auto focus during video they both use contrast-detect auto focus which is slower and produces a visible choppiness in the video. Another advantage of the TMT is that the viewfinder never goes dark. You are literally watching the scene even as the shutter is firing to make the exposure.

All Sony DSLR camera models use the legacy Minolta Maxxum "A" lens mount that dates back to 1985. This means that you have access to a large selection of previously owned lenses of excellent quality. Sony also placed a focusing motor in their camera bodies so those legacy Maxxum AF lenses will auto focus on the SLT A35 or A65 as they should. With Nikon you have to buy either the D90 (about to be discontinued) or the D7000 if you want a focusing motor in the camera body.

Another Sony feature is the in-camera Image Stabilization. Any lens used, even a Maxxum AF 70-210mm zoom made in 1985, becomes an IS lens. Nikon and Canon certainly can't say that since they have their versions of IS in some but not all of their lenses and you pay for it over and over. So if you ever decide to add a 50mm f1.4 prime lens to your kit it will be an IS lens on any Sony DSLR.

I suggest seriously considering spending the extra $300.00 and buying the Sony SLT A65.

How long do you use Canon DSLR lens?

best canon lens 5d on Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 VC Video Footage & Review
best canon lens 5d image

pikachu

I am trying to buy Canon 24-70mm lens which costs over $1300..
If this lens is well taken care of, how long do you think I can use it?

I am using t2i now.. and I am planning to buy FF body like 5D in 4 ~ 5 years.
I have to decide whether I choose 17-55mm or 24-70mm.
If the lens tends to last longer, I would definitely go for 24-70mm.

Answer
I'd go for the 17-55IS on the crop and wait for the 24-702.8L II. You can always sell the popular 17-55IS later on. (or keep the T2i + the 17-55IS as a backup when you go fullframe) Who knows in 4-5 years there might even be a 24-70f2.8L III to go with the 5DMiv or v. My first lens for my T1i, on the advice of a Pro, besides the 18-55IS kit lens, was the 70-200f4L IS. This turned out to be a great piece of advice and I still use it on the crop with or without a 1.4 extender and it produces really great shots. On my 5DM2 I use a Sigma 50 in between the 16-35f2.8L II and the 70-200f4 L IS zoom. I'm not sure if I'll bother getting the 24-70 II. We'll see. P.S. None of my lenses show any sign of wear and tear however I do look after them.

What's the best canon lens for pleasure photography and vacations?

Buttercup

Hey guys. I'm a 15 year old girl and for the past 2 years I've been saving up for a canon 5d mark ii and I'm almost there and I was wondering, which lens is the best for personal photography and vacations etc? Me and my dad travel a lot to big cities and stuff. Two of the things I'm looking forward to is going to NYC for New Year 2014 and we're also going to Sochi for the 2014 Olympic games. So I definitely want a lens for that.

I also like to take pics of my animals, and at the beach and of my friends at school. Any suggestions?

Answer
By purchasing a full frame camera, you have limited yourself to buying Canon EF lenses. The less expensive EF-S lenses cannot be used on your 5D, Mark II without damaging the cameras mirror.

Here is a link to all the Canon lenses.

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup

As you can see, you still have a lot of lenses to choose, but you may need more than just one lens for covering the subjects you like to shoot.

Here is a link that will show you what different focal length lenses "see"

http://imaging.nikon.com/lineup/lens/simulator/index.htm

When I am in Manhattan, I use a 14-24 mm lens to shoot the city.
When I am shooting field sports, I use a 70-300 mm when shooting in bright sun or a 300 mm f/2.8 when shooting indoors or at night
The lens I use for shooting my friends and events is the 24-70 mm f/2.8 lens

As you can see, the fine 5D, Mark II is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to building a camera system

How do I record videos using the camera on my laptop?

I don't have a webcam device, but I can see I have a small camera lens at the top of my PC and I want to use it to record videos of myself talking. Is there a way for me to do that? Do I have to download some type of software? I have Windows 7, by the way (if that helps).

Answer
Hello, Many users have problems with web cams. Press the designated button to turn on your camera. If you are using an external camera, use a compatible USB cable to connect the camera to the USB port of your computer.

Visit a website that allows you to test your webcam online. An example of a site you can use include http://www.ehow.com/how_8443971_test-webcam-online.html
Next try this.
Click the "Allow" button from the flash player settings window. You should now see live video footage from your web camera. If you don't see live video, your web camera is not working properly.
To reinstall the drivers try this. Right click on My Computer-> Properties -> Device manager -> Imaging Devices -? Webcam. Right click on the webcam and uninstall it. This will cause the computer to reinstall the drivers and software. Restart the computer and hopefully your problem will be fixed.
Here are a list of sites that will help

What is the best way to photograph moving objects in a dimly lit room?

Miranda D

You probably guessed that I'm talking about shooting concert photography. I did a practice run a few nights ago in a venue and off about 150 pictures that were taken--about 20 of them were recognizable. Ten of the 20 were decent.

I am still a fairly new photographer so I'll tell you that I was working with a Pentax K100D camera. Lens: 50-200.

On one of my good shots I was about 30 ft away from the band with my ISO: 800, F5.6, and shooting at 150mm.

There was a dude with a fro that I could only get ONE good shot of the entire night and those are the settings for that picture.

The issues I was having were mostly due to blur and lighting (of course).

Does anyone have any advice for shooting in low-light situations with active subjects? I am also looking for good websites for reference as well. I currently frequent allthingsphotography.com which is amazing for beginners such as myself.

Thank you in advance.
Also--no tripod. I would like the freedom to move around if at all possible.

I didn't use a flash for the pictures I took as well. I was lucky in having the freedom to get as close to the stage as I pleased, however, I was naive and didn't want to disturb the band--I guess I didn't think that with a million hot stage lights shining down on them they would hardly notice my little flash.

Would this have really made a difference. I never got all that close to begin with. 8-10 feet from the stage was the closest.

Answer
Usually the stage lighting at concerts is good enough to get shots. Most of the concerts are being video taped, so the lighting has to be good enough for the video camera.

That said, I would think you could use your spot meter and get a reading on the light falling on one of the performers and then set your camera in the manual mode to what ever reading you got.

Yes, the lighting will change from time to time, but not more than a stop usually. You will notice that change in your view finder and you can make the slight adjustment as you need.

Don't be afraid to use the highest ISO available on your camera. It is better to get the shot with a little noise in it than not get it at all.

I am a new photographer and would like to take more movement and or long exposure shots with a hand held camera. I believe a IS lens would help my pictures a lot and would like to know if anyone knows where i can get a cheap good quality camera lens with image stabilization.

Answer
Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS SLR Lens is the cheapest but if you already have lens kit then Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 IS Telephoto Zoom Lens is a good choice.

What Is the best photography quality camera for the money?

Alejandro

I'm interested in purchasing a Photography quality camera with interchangeable lens's like the ones i used in photography class not the basic tiny digital camera. I can't recall the the camera names. I don't even know where to began. I just love how all pictures come out beautiful.
Also I know these cameras can get expensive...so what it the best quality in the lower price range.

Answer
The very top end are Hasselblad, but most people cannot justify a 60 megapixel camera that costs more than a new family car.

The most popular ones with a good user base are Canon and Nikon with the lower numbers e.g. D7 being more advanced than the higher numbers e.g. D70 or D700.

Pick a camera you are comfortable with and try to get to hold one in a real store.

The lenses are the expensive part but package offers before Christmas are usually good.

Sony has it's Alpha range of cameras, but these use MemorySticks and have more unusual mountings as Sony see best!

I'm wanting a great camera, that will provide the best quality photos. Can you please tell me what you would buy and why you think it's the best.

Thank you, and hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Answer
Don't ask for "the best" LOL.... people will show you a Hasselblad for $50.000 (body only!)

Any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I'd pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy.

The most important part is to buy only the best lenses - camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don't rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you'll need/want.
The more time you'll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.

If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and "picking their brain" about their camera and whatever else they know.

Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.

Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn't cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.

You'll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.

That's just the small stuff - I can guarantee you that you'll also want more and more lenses.
You'll also want a decent flash some day.

See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn't cheap - at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

Just some food for thought........

Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.
The very best thing you can do for your photography, is to attend a class and read a few books and tutorials. Having some knowledge will make a huge difference to your images.
I hope I have expressed this idea clearly enough: YOU need to learn about photography because even the world's best camera will take lousy shots in the hands of someone who has no clue how to use it.

What DSLR camera is best for me?
