What camera lens would be best for a concert?

I'm going to see Taylor Swift in about a month. I'm sitting kind of far off so I need to know what to look for in a camera lens so I can buy a new one. The one that came with my camera is okay but I'd like a better one.

I have a canon rebel t2i - I'm hoping to stay pretty cheep, maybe under $200 if at all possible.

Answer
The first thing to do is contact the venue where the concert is being held. You will probably be told that you can not bring your camera in. Most venues will only allow P&S cameras NOT a DSLR.

IF you can bring your camera, you could try the 75-300mm f/4-5.6, but you will need to use a high ISO (which will introduce noise) and/or a slower shutter speed (will blur movement). When I am shooting concerts, the slowest lens I use is a f/2.8 (the lower the f/stop number, the "faster" it is).

Here is the current Canon lens lineup... http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/cameras/ef_lens_lineup

What is the best zoom lens for canon EOS 50D?

Raquel

I don't have enough knowledge about camera lens. I just bought a new canon camera EOS 50D. I am also planning to buy zoom lens but I have no idea what is the best lens for EOS 50D. Your recommendation is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Answer
For the 50D you will need a 'good' lens if you want excellent image quality. A cheap telephoto lens is not a good idea for a camera like this, so don't even think about getting a budget one that only costs a couple of hundred dollars or so, because it won't deliver on image quality and will not be good enough for lower lighting. One with a wider (faster) aperture of f/2.8 is an excellent choice.

From the Canon lens/camera review site below (of the 50D)...
"Because the quality of the lens makes a big difference in the image quality delivered by a DSLR - especially one with the resolution of the 50D, I recommend buying (now or later), one of the better Canon general purpose lenses available. At this review date, the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens is my most-recommended 1.6x lens with the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens and the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM Lens being excellent alternatives."

Another excellent lens with a longer starting focal length is the EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L, with or without IS or the f/4 version with or without IS.

Check out the links below for reviews of all the lenses above (and the 50D) and other lenses...

I am researching to buy a Nikon D600 with the lens kit 24-85 vr, I am looking for a good telephoto lens too. I am much more familiar with Canon system and in the topic of tele zooms it is easy, the Canon 70-200 f4 L usm is the best bang for buck lens. Is there anything like it for Nikons?

Answer
Here is a link to all the lenses made buy Nikon.

http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Camera-Lenses/All-Lenses/index.page

While most of the Nikon and Canon systems have similar lenses, there are some missing in both systems

Two of my most used lenses, the Nikkor 14-24 mm f/2.8 and 200-400 mm f/4 have no similar lenses in the Canon system.

This is true of Canon's 70-200 mm f/4 lens. There is no similar lens for Nikon's

What lens u ll suggest for a travel photography?

1)i like to buy 70-200mm f/ 4l is usm lens,is it gud enough or will sugest sum other lens for the same price category?

2)how to find the orginal canon lens? becoz here lot of shops provide various price ranges for the lens which i mentioned.
Thanks 4 ur suggestions in advance.

Answer
@Camera guy-it looks as if English may be a second language for the OP, but I'm not sure.

As far as a lens, it really depends on where you're going and what you'll be doing. If you will mostly do scenic shots, landscapes, cityscapes, then I recommend a wide angle lens like a 10-22mm or 12-24mm. It will make for much more dynamic shots.

But if you will be doing mostly street style photography, cafes, people, markets, then something like a 35mm or 50mm might be more appropriate.

Or, if you will be shooting a lot of wildlife, then you are going to want at least a 200mm focal length, so perhaps the 70-200. But it might still leave you wanting a little more reach.

I'm trying to put together a professional art portfolio but I don't know what cameras are the best for it.

I have a 5.1 mega pixel Sony CyberShot digital camera, but it's old and falling apart.

I was looking at some thanksgiving sale cameras: Cannon and Nikon cameras...

Does anyone know good 10 mega pixel cameras that have a price range of $300~400??... used for professional documentation. :)

Thanks!

Answer
Hi,

Some things have to be considered here.

Firstly, what are you photographing, and where is it?

If it is very small, will you require macro capabilities, or do you need to capture something large (like a building or contextual scene like a room) that requires a wide angle lens? If it is bigger than a coffee mug and smaller than a car, that can fall under a normal focal length lens.

Can it be moved or lit? Is it something big and indoors under low-light? When you take a picture of it with the Sony, what don't you like about that photo? A new compact digital camera is not going to be that much better than your Sony without a change in lighting.

How professional do you want the photographs to appear? Are you willing to spend money on a backdrop or light table for pro-looking product shots? Would you perhaps consider using fabric as a backdrop and lighting your shot with a lamp? If you wish to go with natural or dim lighting for mood, you will need a tripod.

How large will the images be printed? A 10-megapixel camera can produce enough detail to print a 4-page spread at near photo-quality from a single image. A 6-megapixel camera can print 11x17" (two-page spread) at near photo-quality. Is 10-megapixel an important part of your criteria?

Is this going to be an on-going process or a one-time deal? Would you consider hiring a photographer instead of buying a camera, if this were a one-shot deal?

Hope these questions and ideas help you make a decision. Good luck!

Do you know tips for acting in front of a camera?

arsteatr

I will go to a casting and I'd like to do fine.

Answer
Though it is important to not worry about the camera(s), it is always good to keep in mind that unlike theatre, the camera represents a three dimensional scene in a two dimensional space. Because of this, you should avoid looking head-on into the camera or remaining at exactly ninety degrees to it unless you are directed to do so or you are trying to achieve a specific effect. If you should do this at the wrong time, there may be an unintended message communicated to the TV audience which can project a negative or bizarre image of your performance. (Think mug-shot here...)

Remember, in TV the whole audience looks at you through one tiny little spot - the camera lens. They are not spread out across the auditorium as in the theatre.

I would recommend that you experiment with a camcorder to see the effect that different angles of body and head placement have on a video. Try acting the same short scene with several different body and head positions. Then watch the results with an eye towards the first-impression emotional impact of each angle. How does this particular performance make you feel compared to the others? Some fair-minded but brutally honest acting colleagues may be of some assistance in this judgment. Be sure to try this experiment at different framings as well (close-ups, mediums, longs, etc).

Ultimately it is the director's job to tell you what is wanted in a shot but it never hurts to have an idea of what (s)he may be seeing on the monitor.

Good luck!

I'm looking to purchase a new camera for my amateur photography.
I currently use a Panasonic Lumix fz35, but I'm a bit bored of it now.
Don't want a dslr, or any 'bulky' kind of cameras.
The samsung nx210 looks appealing to me, but i'm not sure about the specs, and quality of it.

Any opinions / recommendations would be a great help to me!!
Thanks!

Answer
Take a look at the Sony NEX cameras -NEX-F3, NEX-5N and NEX-7. Here are reviews of them:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/sony-nex-f3/sony-nex-f3A.HTM

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX5N/NEX5NA.HTM

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX7/NEX7A.HTM

Here are current prices from B&H - http://www.bhphotovideo.com

NEX-F3 w/18-55mm zoom, $498.00 after a $100.00 'Instant Savings' from B&H. Ends 9-29-2012.

NEX-5N w/18-55mm zoom. $498.00 after a $200.00 'Instant Savings' from B&H. Ends 9-29-2012.

NEX-7 w/18-55mm zoom, $1,268.00 after an $80.00 'Instant Savings' from B&H. Ends 9-29-2012.

The deep discounts shown on the NEX-F3 and NEX-5N (also shown on the Sony website) tells me that there are new models coming so either of these cameras is a real bargain right now.

Which is the better compact system camera, Nikon 1 V1 or Nikon 1 J1?

Maximilian

i'm hoping to buy a compact system camera. I have only used compact camera's before. Through various forums and reviews, i found out that these two are a bit better. Can anyone please tell me which is better off these two, or if not is there any other better one in the same price range.
if possible please give me the prices of these also

Answer
They only differ in features and body build. Both use the exact same image sensor, so you won't get better images out of the V1.

Prices for the J1 have been cut slightly, but I've seen massive cuts on the V1 because it was a giant flop. This happened for two reasons. First out of the gate, the Nikon 1 system is the poorest performer for these types of cameras. Using an image sensor that's even smaller than the micro four thirds really hurt image sensor performance.

Next reason, the V1 was hundreds of dollars more than the J1, and I don't know about you but for that extra dough I want a better image sensor, not the exact same one.

The J1 launched at 649 over a year ago, and the price fell fast. I've seen it being cleared out at 449 and 400. The J2 already launched at a slightly lower street price, and the V1 was slashed big time down to the 400 dollar range to clear them out.

So if you are a fan of the V1, and you can score one being blown out for J1 prices, it's OK. It would be nice to have that nice mag alloy body, and viewfinder over the J1.

Bottom line, the Sony NEX is spanking everyone when it comes to image sensor performance. So for similar money, you can score a Sony NEX F3 and you'll know, packing that camera you've got not only the best image sensor for the money, but a sensor that beats every Canon dSLR with the same size image sensor. Good for you, kind of sad for Canon. On sale now for 499 http://store.sony.com/p/Sony-Alpha-NEX-F3-Camera-and-18-55mm-Lens/en/p/NEXF3K/W

If you don't like that clunky zoom, pick up a prime or pancake lens from Sony, or from Sigma, they just started making glass for the NEX system.

what are some good wedding photography tips?

best camera lens to use for wedding photography image

Jessica

im only 14 but ive been into photography my whole life. i can take pretty good pictures, and very good at editing. i currently have a nikon d40. i want to become a wedding photographer. can wedding photographers, or any type of photographer give me some tips?

to get started?
what type of cameras?
what age should i start wedding photography?
what kind of pictures to take?
anything, please and thanks.

Answer
Well, I do quite a few different types of photography, including weddings.

Just because you are 14 means only that age limitations apply. You have the youth and energy to craft your photographic trade for decades to come though! Having a Nikon D40 is a great thing. I shoot a D90 with a Tamron 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 and love it! The fact you can edit is a great plus, seeing that digital photography has a requisite for that kind of talent.

Now, on to your questions...

You've already have gotten started. You have a great camera, you're computer savvy and have drive. Now you need the channels to utilize those energies. How about the school paper? The local paper? Be a free-lance photographer for them! Learn what clients want and find out how you can supply it. How will you make yourself unique (differentiate) as compared to other photographers? Think about this.
As to how to further get started in wedding photography, I learned by taking lots of photographs and reading up on books in the library. I also asked other photographers (like you're doing here) on some tips. It takes time, and you have lots of that!

As for your camera, right now the D40 is fine. Learn the operations of the camera if you haven't already. Knowing your tools is of utmost importance to getting the most from them. In a few years, think about upgrading possibly. Always look to buy the best lenses you can afford. The lens will outlive the camera by decades! Read articles, look at product reviews and see what is the right kind of lenses and bodies for what you want to do. I still have my 6 year old D70 and lenses because my wife is getting into photography and she loves it.

You can do some work on wedding photography right now. Not for pay possibly, but doing some free-lance work and then showing the bride and groom your work afterwards would set you up for something in the near future. I'd say that the earliest you could get some sort of paying work is at 17 or 18. Don't ask me what you could charge... your work/portfolio quality will determine that in a few years.

What kind of pictures? What do you WANT to take pictures of? What really makes you want to snap that picture? That is the motivation you need to focus on! That is what helps differentiate your work from everyone else! I do a lot of landscape, macro, flowers/plants and specialty photography personally.

The best thing to do is:

1) Learn your camera and lenses. What/where are they good at performing? How many lenses do you really need to just start? If you only have one lens then fine. Learn its strengths and weaknesses. Know the camera operations by memory so that when conditions change, you can change the settings accordingly.
Do you have a good prime lens (50mm f/1.8), a good low end zoom (18-70/105mm), a good high focal length zoom (70-300mm)? Maybe, like me, you have a good "walk about" lens (18-270mm). Even if you just have the 18-105mm Nikon lens the D40 came with, it's a very good lens! You can do a lot of fine work with that lens.

2) Read up on the types of photography you'd like to do. Take notes. How about some classes in middle or high school? Go to the library and check out some books so you can refer back to them. That is a no-cost option! Learn the basics of exposure and composition and how to get different effects from different settings of the camera. Don't rely on your software to make a semi-good picture better. Learn to take a great picture right off the bat so you don't have to do any rework on the computer.

3) Learn from your mistakes. Why did the picture come out bad, over or under exposed? How can you work to not do that again? Why is is that certain pictures came out fantastic? What did you do correctly so you can repeat that? Since you have a digital camera, you can usually take several shots of the same subject and see how different settings make the picture change to you liking.

4) Have fun doing whatever you do. I have seen so many people get into photography and get lost in the details that they forget to have FUN!

Good luck!

What is the best camera lens when shooting a wedding that will be in a church and at the reception?

Alana W

I have been asked to take the photographs at my friends wedding. Which lenses are usually used? I have a canon digital rebel xt. I already have an 18-55 lens and a telephoto lens. The wedding will be at a church, and the reception will be at a hotel hall. Which ones will be suitable for shooting the wedding and reception?

Answer
If you can get your hands on one, buy, borrow or rent a Canon 17-55mm f/2.8 ($1050 retail). On a budget, get a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 ($450). These lenses provide much better image quality than the 18-55 kit lens, they are considerably faster than the 18-55 kit lens, and they are made to be used at f/2.8 (unlike the kit lens, which needs to be stopped down to around f/8 for best image quality). You'll use this zoom range for 80+ percent of you shots.

If you can't afford these, consider a Canon 50mm f/1.8 for the church ceremony. Used copies cost peanuts and they're under $100 retail. This is NOT the right lens for the job, but it WILL let you do available light photography.

Use your current tele lens for some candids. Or if money is no object, upgrade to a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8.

If you don't already have an external flash, strongly consider one and learn how to use it for fill-flash. The flash of choice is the Canon 580EX ($380). You probably won't be allowed to use it inside the church, but it will be very useful for the formals and at the reception.

Also stock up on memory cards and get an extra battery. Carry spare batteries for your flash as well.

I have a Canon Rebel XT and 2 lenses
1) 18-55mm standard lens
2) 75-300mm telephoto lens III

What would a 2x tele convereter lens do for me?
I do a a lot of landscape shots. Does the quality change?

Answer
A 2x TC will double the range of your 75-300mm to 600mm. This is nice for wildlife and sports photography, but for landscapes you'd generally use a wide angle lens.
Tele converters do degrade image quality and they also require more light. The more powerful the TC, the more pronounced this becomes. So a 2x TC degrades image quality more than a 1.4x TC. And since your 75-300mm zoom is a consumer grade lens to begin with (as is the Canon 70-300mm), stacking a 2x TC on it probably won't win you any photography competitions. Still, it can be a fun item to have in your camera bag.

I have the Canon Rebel XS with the kit lens and I want to buy a telephoto lens.

I need help sorting out all the lingo. For example, what is DG, and whats the difference between f/4.0-5.6 IS and f/4.0-5.6 III? Canon vs Sigma?

I will mostly be shooting people, sports and occasionally landscapes.

Answer
Personally I would stick with a Canon lens over Sigma. Third party lenses are rarely as good as the Canon lenses. Also camera companies design their lenses with future technology in mind. They do not release this information to third party makers . There is a good chance that sometime in the future the third party lenses will no longer work correctly with new cameras.

The lingo means the following.

DG: Is Sigma's designation for digital only lenses. These lenses are designed to be used exclusively on digital cameras with APS-C sized sensors like your Rebel. They will not work on full frame digitals or film cameras.

F4.0-5.6 IS means the lens is a variable aperture lens with image stabilization. The max aperture changes from F4 at the wide end of the zoom to F5.6 when zoom all the way out. On a 70-300mm lens the max aperture will be F4.0 at 70mm and F5.6 at 300mm.

F4.0-5.6 III means that it is a variable aperture zoom and that is the 3rd addition of the lens.

For Canon telephoto zooms I would look at either of these two.

Canon EF 70-300mm F4.0-5.6 IS about $600

Canon EFs 55-250 F4.0-5.6 IS about $250

The 70-300mm III is not really a very good lens. You would be better off spending a few dollars more and getting the 55-250 over this lens.

What is the best Nikon camera to buy??
THe best for the price...
And i want it to take good macro pics and action shots?

My price range is probably anywhere up to $800.

Answer
There are 4 cameras wtih lenses from nikon in that range D80, D60, D40x, D40.

The D80 is much more flexible and can use many more nikon and third party lenses than the others models and therefore is the best

As far as a macro lens, I would start with the kit 18-55, add a close-up lens (52 mm filter). If you need better then buy a true macro lens like a 60 mm nikon.

For sports, a good starter lens is 55-200 vr or an 70-300 G. Your next step would be 80-200 f 2.8 or 70-300 VR.

Will a solar eclipse hurt my Rezound camera?

best camera lens to travel with image

Nic

The Solar Eclipse will be traveling through where I live. I am going to look up ways to view eclipses, but also wanted a direct recording of it. There is no view finder, as the camera is digitally viewed on the screen, so I'm not worried about my eyes. But I don't want to ruin my camera lens either.

Answer
Pointing any digital camera at the Sun, eclipsed or not, will permanently damage the camera's sensor, exactly as looking at it will lead to a blind spot on your eye. Also the image on any standard camera will be too small to show any detail.

What does it mean when you dream of secret service and false advertisement?

Eva

So I recently had this strange dream I can't quite understand. I was walking through the mall and first encountered these two young happy black women, they must've been best friends having a nice day (I think they were just a part of the scenery, nothing significant though I could be wrong). I walk past them and around the end of the mall there is this guy who looks kinda like Obama and he's surrounded by a few men in black. The Obama look a like and his men said they were an add campaign of sorts and were taking pictures of random young people for their magazine. I thought why not, this could be fun. At first he took an ordinary portrait shot of where I was standing and then he said we need to take a second picture of your smile. So this must have been an advertisment for some dental product I thought. (So I didn't know what advert I was getting into in the first place?) ...He put the camera lens right up on my lips and I felt myself leaning over backwards. Obama guy pressed the flash button and I felt this egg shaped ball of energy travel down the left side of my mouth, throat, and into the lower left side of my guy. As I felt that thing sit there my body started going numb in different places, I was being knocked out or drugged. When I passed out I woke up.
It's said people in your dreams represent characteristics of yourself. Some say you should have other people interpret your dreams to get a broad perspective / critique. Maybe this is one of those crazy prophesy dreams. Maybe this Obama KO represents a part of me that lies to itself, I think false advertisement's a key word here. Or maybe this was something stranger like the men in black actually entered my dreams. Any responses?
...I'm really worried if someone actually entered my dreams.

Answer
Secret service and false advertising could be complex symbols from your subconscious mind that indicate people are being manipulative and deceptive towards you - perhaps they are being two faced or pretending to be one way to you but really being something else to others .

Answer
Get a DSLR. And seeing that you're using it for A level (did I read that correctly), you can do with an entry-range DSLR which would do pretty well compared to your Sony compact camera. Good examples would be Canon EOS 1100D or Nikon D3100, which are the most basic DSLRs of the brand. They're affordable. But if you can go a little higher, please do, especially if you want to continue in this field.

Main benefit would be, as you mentioned slightly, the control over shutter speed and aperture which is lacking in most compact cameras. This is pretty essential for good photos. Another feature which would be helpful in future would be the wide range of accessories and lens that you can equip your camera with, such as an external flash (speedlight) or a lens with greater zoom (maybe a telephoto lens) or special functions (e.g. tilt-shift, or fisheye - the extremely convex lens that allows you to take at exceptionally wide angles with this center-bulging effect known as fisheye effect)

There's a lot to learn, but get your basic kit first, and work up from there. It will be another series of adventures once you upgrade from a compact camera. All the best!

what is the best camera and video camera combo in india ?

Vishruti

what is the best camera and video camera combo in india ?
I want to buy a still digital camera which has a good video camera option.
We are going to use more of the still camera but the video camera would be used for small instructional film making once in a while..

Please suggest the best model under the price range of Rs. 30 thousand in India. Also - would you suggest a good website / store to buy it

Much Thanks

Answer
Have you considered a dSLR

Something like the Nikon D3100 goes for 27k, with the 18-55mm kit lens included

Compare, http://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=nikon_d3100&products=canon_eos1100d&products=sony_slta37&products=nikon_d3200&products=nikon_d5100

It can do 1920x1080 video at 24 fps
Also checkout the Canon EOS 1100D, minus part is it can only do 1280x720 @ 30 fps
And if videos are a priority with you, the Sony SLT-A37 is the clear winner with 1920x1080 video at 60 fps

Do some reading and familiarize yourself
A dSLR is the ultimate photography tool

Ultimate selection you need to make, go to your local camera stores and handle the ones you shortlist
The one which best fits your hand, best suits your style ... that's it !!

What DSLR camera should I buy?

stlarsenal

I have been shooting with film for a while now, and I love it. But now I want to try out digital photography, but I don't really know much about which digital cameras are the best. I am not looking to break the bank on a camera, but just a solid camera that will take good pictures. Any help would be great!
I have a Nikkormat (Nikon) camera

Answer
I am in the same boat as you; I have narrowed my search to four cameras. I am looking at bodies only right now; I know that you have enough experience to know the lens you want.
I did a web search and found quite a spread for prices. Pricing is body only.

Nikon D90, 12.3mp, Sensor 23.6 x 15.8 mm, price range of $660 to $1,000
Nikon D300S, 12.3mp, Sensor 23.6 x 15.8 mm, price range of $1,400 to $1,800
Canon EOS 50D, 15.1mp, Sensor 22.3 x 14.9 mm, price range of $640 to $1,200
Canon EOS 7D, 15.1mp, Sensor 22.3 x 14.9 mm, price range of $1,470 to $1,700

How do I clean my DSLR camera lens?

dslr camera lens cleaning kits image

Mindy

Do I need to buy anything to properly clean it? Is there a certain kind of cloth? When I do clean it, should I wipe the lens by doing circles or?

Thanks

Answer
I disagree only slightly with "screwdriver". I do not think the first thing to do is brush the lens. The first thing to do is BLOW the lens with a proper blower. Get the lens as clean as you can without ever touching it. Then after blowing away all loose grit, then gently brush it with a proper lens brush. In most cases, that is all you will ever have to do. If some substance does get on the lens, yes, the Eclipse fluid and Pec Pads are great, but there are less expensive alternatives.

Here is a cleaning kit that would be the best $11 you ever spent for you lenses:

Is a Sony a35 DSLR camera good for photography?

zombieland

I want to get a new camera for photography, and this one sounded pretty good. Is it a good choice for taking pictures of people. I want the details to really stand out and for it to capture well.

Answer
Any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I'd pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy. However, if you're determined to get a Sony, it will probably be fine, too.

The most important part is to buy only the best lenses - camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don't rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you'll need/want.
The more time you'll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.

If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and "picking their brain" about their camera and whatever else they know.

Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.

Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn't cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.

You'll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.

That's just the small stuff - I can guarantee you that you'll also want more and more lenses.
You'll also want a decent flash some day.

See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn't cheap - at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

Just some food for thought........

Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.
The very best thing you can do for your photography, is to attend a class and read a few books and tutorials. Having some knowledge will make a huge difference to your images.
I hope I have expressed this idea clearly enough: YOU need to learn about photography because even the world's best camera will take lousy shots in the hands of someone who has no clue how to use it.

It is completely up to YOUR skill for " the details to really stand out and for it to capture well"

I am planning to buy a dslr for around $650 to $720. I am currently considering the pentax k-x with twin lens kit, which is like a 55mm and 300mm lenses for $720. Any other cameras you suggest I get instead or should I stick with getting the k-x? Thanks.

Answer
Hi PeteTheELite,
I think Nikon D3100 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens. Nikon has unveiled the D3100, its latest entry-level offering and its first DSLR that can record full 1080p HD videos.

What is the difference in 045d DSLR camera ?

A

Can anyone give me idea about the following two? What is the difference?

What about Tamron lens?

What is the problem if I donât have 18mm-27mm (as there is a gap if I go for Tamron)

Canon EOS 450D Digital SLR Camera Twin Lens Kit with : 18-55mmIS + and 75-300 Lens $1229

Canon EOS 450D Digital SLR Camera + Tamron 28-300mm Lens $1,399

Answer
amazon have the Canon EOS 450D aka XSi rebel for $650 with the 18-55mm IS lens and free shipping

you usually want Canon lens with Canon camera bodies...I wouldn't suggest you going with a Tamron to start off 28-300mm is a zoom lens

1st choice is better although the 75-300 zoom lens isn't that great......if it was me I'd just get the camera with the kit lens and get the 55-250mm IS later

Also, the main camera i have in mind right now is the canon xh a1. but i was wondering, do the canons 60d or 7d capture better video then the xh a1?

Answer
In my opinion, Canon XA10 is currently the top-of-the-line Canon Professional camcorder.

The XA10 is the first model in Canonâs new XA series and is designed for users who are looking for excellent performance with a mobile body. By a wide range of manual features, Canonâs professional audio and picture quality combine the new model is a suitable option for independent users in places or work for owners of larger professional models who are looking for a compact addition to their current equipment.

Using the latest Canon imaging technologies, the XA10 provides a high image quality, despite the size. The Canon HD Camera System based on the DNA of Canonâs XF series uses Canon optics and a Pro HD CMOS image sensor.

A Canon HD Video lens produces crisp HD images with a smaller body than ever. With a 10x optical zoom, 30.4mm wide and a maximum aperture of f/1.8, the lens of the XA10 ensures the quality and versatility to support any type of recording. A 2x digital extender provides extra coverage in situations where real close-up is needed and an iris with eight blades ensures an almost circular background blur or bokeh. For added flexibility for wide-angle XA10 is compatible with the new WD-H58W wide panel, while existing 58mm filters and adapters can be used.

What camera do you guys recommend and why? Nikon D7000 or Canon 7D?

Ralf

What camera do you guys recommend and why? Nikon D7000 or Canon 7D? Also what lens for video?
The camera will be used for photography (all around) and video. Which lens do you recommend for both? Any other suggestions for cameras around this price point?

What about the Sony A77? I just read good reviews on that one too.

Answer
Here is one reason many of us recommend the D7000.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Compare-Camera-Sensors/Compare-cameras-side-by-side/(appareil1)/680%7C0/(brand)/Nikon/(appareil2)/619%7C0/(brand2)/Canon

There are other reasons you will find for choosing the Canon 7D.

What it boils down to is which of the two cameras YOU like the best and the way to figure that out is to visit sites like the one above and visit a proper camera shop to see which you like the best

So many people decide that they later want to tether their cameras, use various lenses that are not available if you have a Sony system, they tend to look harder at Nikon and Canon camera systems.

Sony has only been making cameras since 2005 but nothing professional.

Canon started making professional cameras 1988 and Nikon since 1959

What is the best way to film glowsticks with a DSLR?

best canon 7d lens for film image

YahooAnswe

I'm filming a video in the dark and I need glowsticks to show up brightly. If I turn the ISO up high, I feel like that will make the video too grainy. Is there a specific aperture and shutter speed that would allow for the best results? Or any other settings that I didn't think of? It'd be super helpful! Thanks!

By the way, I shoot on a Canon 7D

Answer
There is only so much you can do when using s dSLR as a video camera to control exposure.

Since the frame rate is fixed, the only variables you can use are the lens aperture and the ISO when shooting in low light

That means you need a lens with a large aperture like f/1.4 or f/1.8.

After that all you can do is increase the ISO until your "glow sticks" become visible.

Had you known before you bought your 7D, that you needed a camera that performs well at high ISO, you would probably purchased a different camera

Here is how different camera perform at high ISO settings.

http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/Cameras/Camera-Sensor-Ratings/(type)/usecase_sports

As you can see, the best performing cameras are the full frame camera and they are the costly ones.

What is the best place to buy a Canon 7D camera?

Alex

For the right price and quality? Also what lenses should I buy if I intend to do film and television work?

Answer
You can probably find the cheapest price on eBay, though Amazon is usually quite competitive too and reliable:

Your lens question is fairly broad. Canon makes many excellent consumer and professional grade 'L' ,lenses and the limit is usually one's budget. Here is a good place to start looking for lens recommendations for different prices:

What would 55mm - 200mm lens convert to in optical zoom?

best camera lens for safari on Best Safari Lens - Backup Camera and Lens
best camera lens for safari image

Adair

Would this do far a Safari or do I need 300mm? I just don't get the whole mm thing...
It's getting a bit pricey now and this is the lens that comes with a bundle deal. Would this be good for a safari?

Answer
For a zoom simply divide the higher number by the lower number. In tis case 200/55=3.63. The main point to remember is that zoom is not magnification, they are two completely different things. For example a camera can have a focal range of 5-25mm and be 5X zoom, while another can have a focal range of 33-100mm and offer only 3X zoom. However, the 100mm, being a longer focal point, will actually get you closer (magnification) to your subject.

Having said all that, 300mm is a longer focal point than 200mm and would get your closer for your safari. Another consideration would be the resolution of the camera. A 10MP camera will capture a larger image than a 5MP camera. In these regards, you could crop and enlarge an image while maintaining high image quality.

What is the best Nikon telephoto lens for wildlife photography?

Kevin

I have multiple Nikon cameras and a strong interest in wildlife photography. I'm interested in a AF-s or AF-i lens with VR under $1000 that would allow me to take sharp pictures of wildlife at a distance. It'd be nice to have at least a 300mm, either zoom or not.

What have you used, what did you like about it, and what do you suggest?

Answer
We would suggest the Nikon 80-400 zoom lens. It is very sharp and you can see a comparison between the 80-400 and the 80-200 with 2X teleconvertor here http://www.kruger-2-kalahari.com/Teleconverters.html. If you want reach rather get a longer lens than using tele-converters.

My wife shoots with the 80-400 lens and I offered her the Nikon 200-400 f4 VR lens but she preferred to stay with her 80-400! The only downside of the 80-400 is that it doesn't have a motor but that has not stopped my wife from getting action shots of birds in flight, running cheetahs etc.

You can read more about the Nikon 80-400 here http://www.kruger-2-kalahari.com/best-safari-lens.html.

We have tried third-party lenses like Sigma and were not happy with the results - try to get the same brand lenses as your camera. We had the top-of-the -range Sigma zoom 300-800mm and sold it after a few months due to lack of image sharpness.

We have seen a few second-hand 80-400 lenses for sale so it is possible to get them for under $1000.

I have a Canon EOS XT, I need to take real estate photos, What kind of lens would I need? or do i need one? Anyone have any tips on taking this type of photography?
Oh and how do you get your name in the lower portion of the finished photo?

Answer
Most of these ads are printed on cheap newsprint or on a website so an expensive lens isn't really needed, but a wider angle is. My advice is to take the time to shut an open garage door, hide the garbage cans, that sort of thing. I'm always amazed at how little thought most real estate photos show. For interior shots without flash, a fast lens would be good, such as a 2.8. Be sure to change the color balance to match the interior lighting to avoid unwanted color casts.

Can anyone recommend a good camera for shooting real estate photos of interior rooms? Want to stay below $500?

vicki

I am a real estate marketer and recently one agent has asked me to take photos of his new listings for him, and then I upload them to the internet and also make his brochures with the pics. I don't have a wide-angle lens on my camera, so it is impossible to get pictures of small areas, such as bathrooms. He agreed to buy me a new camera for work, and I need some suggestions for cameras under $500 that do the trick. Thanks!

Answer
Sorry! But what you're asking is out of the range of a $500 camera. At least if you want good, focused shots! (see link #1)

I'm a builder, and I sometimes don't get the shot I want with a lens that's more than you budget!

I have a Canon 5D ll, a EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM, a EF 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye and a TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II.

You might try using software to get what you want!

The last link is a 12 by 14 foot room, taken with the 16-35

Edit: The good folks here that are suggesting the G10's and other fine point and shoots, that have the 35mm equivalent of a 28mm lens, have never aimed them into a 10' by 12' room, through a door! Let alone a typical 5' x 7 foot bathroom.

I do it all the time, give me a shout if you want more real advice.

My company does mostly, high end millwork and cabinetry, and I darn sure want to take the best possible pictures of it! Just did some work for Sotheby's International Realty, you might have heard of them.
