camera lens?

mdjgirl7

Will any canon lens fit a rebel? What would be a good lens to start off with?

yes I know nothing lol

Answer
Hi MD Girl. Not all Canon lenses will work on a Rebel digital Specifically.... none of the FD lenses have the same type of mount as do the EF lenses... (by EF, I refer to the electronic focusing lenses that are "electronically" driven when mounted to the camera). I have found out the hard way :(( that not all of the EF lenses will work on every camera either ... and I mostly refer to the one you are asking about... the Rebel. If you use the wrong kind of lens on your camera... you will get an error message and the camera will not take ANY pictures, so when buying a lens, make sure it signifiies that it is designed for your camera. As for a good lens to start off with.... many people will recommend the 50mm, but I don't. You will be happy with a 50mm initially... but after a few shooting trips you will be wanting to take long range shots or maybe very wide angle landscapes and the 50mm is just too restrictive. I recommend and always have in my camera bag a telephoto zoom lens. 18-200mm or 70-210mm gives you many more photo opportunites than does a standard 50mm. And let me pass on another piece of advice since you are in the market for a lens. Always look to see where the lens is manufactured... it is printed somewhere on the lens body. It will say Made in _____ . Your best quality lenses will be made in Japan. I never buy those made in any of the other countries.... and if you compare the two... you will see the difference in the weight and in the craftsmanship. Hope that gives you something to consider. Thanks for reading and happy shopping. :))

Question: Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II camera Lens?

Dee

1) Is this a good/decent Lens for headshots?

2) I also have a standard EFS 18-135mm lens that came with my Canon 60D kit. I wanted to purchase a fisheye adapter that attaches to this lens. I know Opteka has some, but i have only seen ones that attach to the 18-55mm lens. Does anyone know where i can find one?

Answer
The 50 mm lens used on a 60D is exactly used for shooting head shots.

The cheap $40 fisheye attachments are pretty bad and may work on your 18-135 mm lens at 18 mm.

However, You must buy one that will fit on a 67 mm filter thread

Best lens for Headshots using NIkon 3000 ?

thespian

I'm planning on buying a nikon d3000 and i want to take actors headshot pictures with it. What is the best lens to do this?

Answer
Your best option is a prime (non-zoom) lens. 135mm is the usual for 35mm cameras, which translates to about 85 or 105 for a DX crop. If you can't find one (used on eBay or rental), the 18â200 VR DX is an okay choice, having larger glass than the kit lenses.

A 50mm is not suitable, as it would exaggerate facial features.

Keep in mind that your audience is composed of industry professionals who look at headshots for a living, and can easily pick out (read: throw away) work from an amateur.

Is the Kodak EasyShare Z891 Digital Camera compatiable with a removable lens?

Shelby

I want a super good and fancy camera lens but I'm not sure if my camera can have one.

Answer
NO it cannot use interchangeable lenses. For that you will have to look at a new dSLR or EVIL camera. Those cameras can use interchangeable lenses.

Use Yahoo Search to find cameras of those types.

What Is a really good Camera with Interchangeable Lens?

candy mand

Hi! I am a beginner with cameras so I don't really know whats good. I want to buy a good digital camera with interchangeable lens's and I want the camera to have a good battery life. Also I like High quality pictures so like a high mega pixel camera would be nice. Also Nothing really expensive like I don't know nothing over $200? I really want a good camera. Thank you!!!!! :)

Answer
There are no DSLR's under $200. if you don't want to spend more money on a camera than a DSLR is not for you! their lenses can cost more than the body.

For $200 look in to a Nikon L120 or any of the Nikon point and shoot cameras.
that's what I had to start out with, don't think you cant get a great picture with a point and shoot!

But if you do end up making your budget higher than I would recommend getting a Nikon D3100, Perfect for beginners like yourself!

What is the best video lens for the canon 7d?

Nathaniel

Hi I already have a canon 7d body, but the lens I have is mainly for photo shooting.
I only do videos/films and the lens that I have is not giving me the professional look that I want.
Any suggestions on good quality canon 7D lenses strictly for filming purposes?
Links to products would be much appreciated. I am on a budget, however I am willing to go big or go home. Also, I also like to score on cheaper$ lenses that still pack a punch!

Thanks guys,
Chris

Answer
Same lens. It's how you use it. Picture and video quality depend on your abilities. The lens and camera are just tools.

Wheres a good place to find a cheap Canon T2i with the lens?

jacob

I would like a Canon T2i with the kit lens, 18-55, or a different lens for UNDER $800

Answer
Canon EOS Rebel T2i 18 MP CMOS APS-C Digital SLR Camera with 3.0-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
http://7thingsdigital.com/?p=123

REview: I'm a frequent upgrader and loyal Canon fan. I traded up from an XSi last year to the T1i, and now this year to the T2i. I was within days of ordering the 7D until they announced the T2i, with all the features I wanted from the 7D at half the cost. I immediately pre-ordered the T2i and have been having some fun with it over the last 24 hours. The verdict so far? I am in love with this SLR.

I believe the last few iterations in the Rebel series have been comparable in quality. The T2i shares much of the same pros and cons with its predecessors, and ultimately, not too much has really changed. That said, the very minor things that did change were huge to me. I'm big into video, which is what got me looking into the 7D. Both the 7D and the T2i have the stereo audio input jack. My T1i just had the built-in mono mic which was unacceptable for someone who is doing more than home videos with this camera. So that feature, along with full manual control of video recording (not available in T1i), and 1080/24p (and 30p if that's your preference) makes this a common sense upgrade if you're serious about video. 720p/60 is also really cool for the silky smooth framerate, although I personally find the movie-like feel of 24p video best.

As for what the camera is really made for, still photography, it is still the king at (in the mid-entry-level DSLR class). 18 megapixels really, truly is more than any person really needs. My XSi from a couple years back met all my needs with 12mp, however, 18 creates for even better bragging rights to the general public. "How many megapixies is that thingy? Eighteen? OMG! You are such a pro!" Anyway, back on track now. The noise levels in most photos I've taken are pretty decent for 18 megapixels. It's comparable to the noise on the 15MP T1i from what I've experienced so far. 6400 ISO is now a default option instead of an expanded setting (12800 ISO still is), which is nice to have, though you'll hopefully never have to use it.

The kit lens is of course the same old 18-55 I've bought practically 5 times over now. A great budget lens and excellent value, but I absolutely can't go back to using it after buying some of the better lenses Canon has to offer. If the money's there, you will not regret investing another few hundred dollars some better glass. Otherwise, the 18-55 is a great lens to start out with.

Only major complaint I have is the white balance in incandescent lighting still isn't as accurate as I'd like. I also wish they kept the same LP-E5 battery so the two I already have would be compatible with both of my cameras. And a nitpick, the "Rebel" name is stupid, to be completely honest. It should be named "550D" as it is in the Europe market. SDXC support is cool, but I can't really comment on it as I'll be using SDHC cards for the foreseeable future. Oh, and the slightly redesigned buttons are a welcome change. A little more ergonomic than before.

In conclusion, if you're thinking about upgrading from a T1i, there isn't really a compelling reason to unless you are okay spending hundreds just for the sake of having the latest in gadgetry (what I do), UNLESS you are in it for the video support, which is AMAZING at this price point. You used to have to spend at least a couple thousand on a professional camcorder to get the kind of video support that you can now get in a consumer DSLR at a very reasonable price. Thanks, Canon! Oh, and amazon got it to me super fast too!

Best Lens for Canon 5D?

Year09

(If you are poor and can only afford ONE lens, in the 1200 and down range...what lens would it be? If you prefer to shoot weddings and/or portraits.)

Answer
Another vote for the 24-70 2.8L. I have personally used this lens for just about any situation you can name. It may not always be PERFECT for every situation, but it is so good at being "nearly" perfect for all uses that it is almost a must have with a 35mm film camera and / or a full frame sensor digital like the 5D.

I only wish Canon would come out with a Image Stabilized version of this lens.

Still, that is my suggestion for you.

What is the best place to buy a cell phone and a SLR Camera Lens Thailand/Singapore?

varungatha

Hey Guys ..
Am kinda desperate to get an answer as i have no clue ..

I will down to Singapore and Thailand in the next week.
and the 2 things i must get are a Nice cell phone and a new lens for my SLR camera

Not what i wanna know which place is the BEST as in Cheapest and reliable place among Bangkok and Singapore .. and where in these cities specifically ?!

Thanks

Answer
if you really want to get cheap mobile phones Laos is a winner and a very short trip from Thailand (1500thb return air asia flight from Bangkok to Udon Tani and 1 hour bus accross teh border ) for a days shopping fo DIRT CHEAP phones you go to the shopping mall opposite the bus stop near teh morning markets in Vientiane. As that may be to much out fo your way you may be best of to opt for any given shopping mall in BKK
I think it depends on what kind of phone you want.
BKK has cheaper knock off copys of phones that are of awesome quality but are phoney for dirt cheap prices singapore has 'real' phones at a more competitive price.
starting price for a i-phone mini dual sim card in MBK will be 7000thb and they will drop a lot fo that maybe down to about 4 or 5k the same phone in Laos will be 2500thb. remember to haggle hard.

How do I clean out my phone's camera lens?

My phone is a Blackberry Curve and any help would be appreciated

advice on nikon vs sony vs olympus dslr please!?

doctoragl

Hello, I'm shopping for a DSLR camera... my first after using a megazoom for a while. I'm considering the Nikon 3100 (seems to have solid features and get good reviews)..
http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/digitalcamera/slr/d3100/

but I loved my Sony, and I am wondering if there is a sony dslr of comparable quality and price to nikon 3100... how about this one for example? http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10551&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665345641 If I understand correctly, it has good zoom capacity.

Someone also recommended Olympus E420 http://www.dpreview.com/news/0803/08030501olympuse420.asp
Does anyone have knowledge/experience on this? I need some advice about image quality, user friendliness for an inexperienced dslr user, macro capacity, zoom, etc. If it helps, my photography is 90% nature and landscape, 10% sports.
Thanks so much
Thanks so much for your replies. I have since discovered that the Olympus E-620 has better built in stabilization than the 420 and is generally an improvement over the older model. I am now basically torn between the nikon 3100 and the Olympus .. any final advice? ;)

Answer
Hi D..,

Macro and zoom capability are dependent on the lens(es) selected, one of the advantages of owning a DSLR camera and al three of these brands have a good selection of lenses. The Nikon brand is one of the most popular brands sold but i believe Sony and Olympus offer better values for the $$.

The Nikon 3100 is a brand new model while the Olympus and Sony models are no longer manufactured and/or have limited availability. However, the Olympus E620 which is a comparable model to the Nikon has a number of features that make it very attractive although it does not have the capability to shoot video that the Nikon model includes. Particular advantages of the Olympus include a larger viewing screen with tilt and swivel features that are great for shooting at low angles and awkward locations when using the Live View feature. It also has illuminated control buttons that make it easier to see and adjust settings in low light. I also prefer the in body Image Stabilization (IS) feature of most Olympus and Sony models over the Vibration Reduction (VR) system used by Nikon. The VR system is incorporated into certain lenses while the IS of Olympus & Sony applies to nearly every lens that can be mounted. I prefer the IS system because it means that there are less complex electronics and fewer delicate systems that can require adjustment in the lenses making lens designs simpler and less likely to need repair/replacement. This also gives the photographer more control over the decision to use the feature without being concerned about what lens is mounted on the camera.

A Sony model that is comparable to the Nikon is a little bit harder to identify because Sony has a very rapid product upgrade cycle but the Alpha(A)390 would be a fairly comparable model that is available now. Like the Olympus this model doesn't have the video capability but does have in body IS (called "Steady Shot INSIDE" by Sony) and a tilting view screen (but not the swivel feature of the Olympus).

One note about Sony cameras, they have several models with "Translucent Mirrors". These are immovable mirrors that work something like one way mirrors that appear to be glass from one side but a mirror from the other side. While they reduce vibration and noise, this type of camera has been attempted before and never been very successful and I would avoid these models for two reasons 1) the mirrors "split" the light thus reducing viewfinder brightness and diverting some light from the film/image sensor and 2) they have proven to be very delicate and difficult/expensive to repair.

All of these models have dust reduction but the Olympus version is widely recognized as the best dust reduction system a function which they developed and patented before anyone else included it in their cameras. In general I would say the Nikon would be the best choice for shooting very high speed sports action, the Olympus would be the best quality for the $$$ (their optics generally are the among the best available) with a slight edge for nature photography while the Sony would get the best marks for easy to use interface and is a good overall camera.

Answer
I love my Sony DSLR A100.

It has been rated at the best DSLR under $1,000 in several photography magazines, as well as being mentioned as winning Popular photographyâs âCamera of the Yearâ http://www.popphoto.com/popularphotographyfeatures/3440/the-camera-of-the-year-2006.html

From the article, âEnjoy the all-new Sony® α (alpha) DSLR-A100K camera with an amazing all-around lens to get you started. Included in this kit is the versatile new SAL-1870 lens. This standard lens easily handles the full range of shots youâll take most oftenâbut thereâs nothing âstandardâ about its advanced optical design. In 35mm equivalent, it covers wide-angle 27mm to 105mm midrange telephoto for snapshots, portraits, interiors and moreâan excellent all-around lens to travel with.

The Sony® α (alpha) DSLR-A100 camera is an instant classic: the top-quality 10 MP DSLR system camera that builds on a two-decade legacy of Minolta photographic leadership, accepts 20 years of A-mount lenses sold worldwideâand introduces Sony® imaging innovations like high-sensitivity shooting with Super SteadyShot® in-camera image stabilization, Dynamic Range Optimizer to automatically increase detail in bright and dark picture areas, new Anti-Dust technology to keep the CCD imager clean for better pictures, and Eye-Start® Autofocus system for faster camera response.â

Check out all the specs at the Sony website: http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY_DisplayProductInformation-Start?ProductSKU=DSLRA100K&Dept=cameras&CategoryName=dcc_DIDigitalSLRCameras_BodyandKits.

Some other reviews to look at too:

http://www.popphoto.com/cameras/2417/hands-on-sony-alpha-100-dslr.html
http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/SonyA100/index.shtml

Personally, I got the kit with the 18-70mm lens and the 75-200 lens. All for about $1,100. I love the camera. Iâve been using SLRâs for over 20 years, and after months of research, I chose the Sony. I have no regrets. I personally would get a larger memory card, nothing less than 2GB...but with that package, it's a deal.

Do your research, good luck, and I hope youâre happy with what you decide!

Good camera and lens for landscape photography?

Justin B

Preferably, under 800 dollars, but can go up to 1000.

Answer
I was going to give you the newest list from some of my colleagues, but then in the fine print, you mention $800

Sadly you need a minimum of two things. A good entry level DSLR (no problem, there are good ones in your price range) and the second one is a good lens for shooting landscape photos. Herein lies the problem.

A good Nikon 10-24 mm ($810) or Canon 10-22 mm ($860) wide angle lens is going to cost you most of your whole budget. Add a $1000for a Nikon D90 or Canon 50D and as you can see, your budget is blown.

Entry level DSLR's like the Nikon D5000 or Canon 1000d with their 18-55 mm counter parts are are not recommended for serious landscape photographers. The will do the job, sure, but my guess you will eventually want to buy something better.

My colleague who shoots about half of his time shooting landscapes has a Nikon D3x with 14-24 mm f/2.8 lens. That little bundle cost him $9,800 (excluding the $400 tripod and a handful of CF cards) so you can see, serious landscape photography can be expensive.

What is a great all around camera lens for the canon t3i. I want to shoot portraits, landscape, urbanscape,?

jessmister

What is a great all around camera lens for the canon t3i. I want to shoot portraits, landscape, urbanscape, waterfalls, etc. I have about a $1000 to spend. I was looking at the Canon EF Zoom lens - 24 mm - 105 mm - F/4.0 - Canon EF. Please help me.

Answer
The 24-105mm lens is a great one, but it isn't as wide on a cropped sensor camera like the T3i. In reality the wide end would be about 38mm due to the 1.6x crop factor.

The EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 is another lens to check out. It's an optically excellent lens and the constant f/2.8 aperture is handy for low light situations. You don't miss out on the wide end like you do with the 24-105mm.

And if you want a little more versatility but don't mind sacrificing the f/2.8 aperture, the EF-S 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 also has great image quality.

If you'd like, you can read some reviews on each of the lenses in the link below.

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/

Better yet, you can rent lenses to try them out for yourself. When you're spending this much money on a lens, it's not a bad idea.

I just ordered this fish eye lens for my iPhone 4 and I'm trying to assemble it.. It has magnets and it says to glue one magnet into my phone but there's no glue or sticker to do so.. This is getting really frustrating and I need help on how to assemble it. I can't find ANY websites that know what they're talking about. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Answer
Prolly easier just to use an app- the image quality using an add-on lens like that will be equivalent or worse to shooting natively and using an editing app; nobody will see the difference. There are also camera apps that can shoot fisheye.

A question about my DSLR camera-lens?

Martin

I have an Olympus E-410 DSLR camera.
When people ask me how big millimeter lens it have, what answer I give, reffering to my "ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm F4.0-5.6"? 40? ......150? ....

Thanks all,in advance.

Answer
If people are asking what the 35 mm SLR equivalent it, just multiply whatever focal length your lenses are by 2. The smaller sensor on your Olympus turns your 40-150 mm lens into an amazing 80-300 mm when compared to a 35 mm SLR or full frame dSLR.

Answer
Hi there,

The answer should refer to your lenses focal lenght, in your case 40-150mm.

The focal length of a lens determines its angle of view, and thus also how much the subject will be magnified for a given photographic position.

Good luck!

Canon 30d?

sekp1987

I was originally going for a 40d body ($1200-body only! ouchies). Then I thought nikon d80. ($800-900 body only) THEN I thought XTI. It's a lot cheaper and good for beginners. But now I think a 30d might be a good idea. It's been on the market for a few years thus, former beginners are wanting to upgrade and sell.

Anyway, I heard that when you're not a super pro photographer, megapixels only mean so much. (30d has 8mp vs the usual 10-12+mp of entry level dslrs). I figure I'd try to get a less new camera so I can get a good lens or two or three. I've read the xti vs 30d vs 40d vs etc etc stuff so I'm pretty comfortable with the knowledge I have.

The going used price is $600ish via craigslist/good winning bid on ebay.

The going refurbished/open box/etc camera is about $700 or so.

So do you think it's a good idea to buy a 30d at about those prices? Or maybe you know of where I can get a better deal.

OR, if you have any suggestions at all or comments/wisdom, that's cool 2
I mean, just because it's old and not being made any more doesnt mean it's not good. Right? That's what I've been told anyway.

hey, that is the link to the canon eos 30d, they have " new " ones there, they aren't used or refurbished.

i would say that the canon eos 30d is a good camera, it has 8 megapixels which is good, it has a big screen which is convinient for displaying your work, it looks and feels more pro, that the canon xti. i would say that the 30d, has much more features, and would be better in the long term

when you buy something off of ebay, be careful some of that crap they sell is so cheap because smtn is wrong with it lol, but i wouldn't say that in all cases though.

hope i helped

What lens should i buy for a canon 30D used for weddings?

Vlad

I can spend up to 650$ on the lens. The body is 30D and the flash 430 ex.I await your reply.

Answer
This is a very difficult question to answer. First you need to determine if you would like a zoom or a few prime lenses.

If you have the kit zoom, you may want some primes for portrait work. For portraits and tighter shots the Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM or EF 85mm f/1.8 USM are pretty fantastic. If you need something a bit wider, the dinky EF 35mm f/2.0 is pretty nice, but still cheap. If you look around, you can probably buy the 35mm and one of the others for close to your budgeted amount. Of course, buying used is cheaper.

The $85 Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is an excellent bargain, but the out-of-focus areas (bokeh) and the build quality might not be as nice. This was my favorite lens for a while, unexpectedly sharp.

If you absolutely need a zoom for convenience, then something with a constant wide aperture (2.8) would be ideal. Canon's excellent EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM is way over budget, but the alternative Tamron and Sigma are worth a look (and can often be found for under 650). Out of those two, I would lean toward the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II. You can see some sample images here:

http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Sample-Pictures.aspx?Equipment=400&desc=Tamron-17-50mm-f/2.8-XR-Di-II-Lens-Sample-Pictures

The EF-S 18-200mm IS (which I often use with my 40D when I travel) is a very convenient lens, but the smaller aperture may make it difficult to use for indoor photography. IS (Image Stabilization) helps in some situations, but won't do any good for people and portraiture as your subjects are going to be moving around.

I hope this helps limit your options and makes your eventual choice easier. Good luck!

What is a *novice* good camera for outdoor nature photography?

Who Man 10

So, I'm just getting into photography and I'm probably going to take pictures of outdoor scenes. Most of it will probably be nature but I might take a few pictures of the city. I've already seen that a "Nikon Coopix P2 5.1 Megapixel Camera", would be great, with good evidence of it. Thanks!

Answer
I think most cameras will be good for outdoor photography. When you get a dslr, you will probably want to change your lenses for macro, or zoom lens for distance photography. But, I think any camera can work for outdoor photography. After all, that's what cameras are made for..taking pictures .. ANYWHERE!: )

What is the best lens for outdoor fashion photography?

Alison You

Hi, I have the nikon D3100 with the 18 to 55mm lens. I've been waiting for fall time to come around to take some outdoor fashion photos. I took my camera outside and tried to see how the pictures would turn out with the lighting and didn't like the photos. The lighting wasn't the problem! I didn't like the lens I was using. So i don't know what lens to use for outdoors or outdoor fashion photography. And another question I had was, am I using the right camera for that kind of photography? I always liked the way the Nikon cameras took photos and I found them to be easy to use. But I don't know what nikon is best. Your answers will help me a lot. Thank you and God bless.

Answer
You will use the same lens shooting fashion, indoors or out.

I use the Nikkor AF-S 24-70 mm f/2.8

The fisheye lens attachments I have seen that are to be used on iPhones attach to the front lens.

which store can I find a camera lens for an ipod 4g?

Karma

so I'm thinking of buying an ipod 4. I love everything about it except for the fact the camera quality is crap so I figured that I should buy one of those lenses that enhance the sharpness. Im 15 so i cant really order stuff online and idk which stores sell these ._. i need mad help

Answer
http://www.fourcornerstore.com/collections/iphone

Keep in mind that no lens will enhance the sharpness. You're putting an add on lens over the existing lens, so the softness of the lens will always be there. If you're really looking for sharpness then these things won't meet your needs.

You also say that you can't order stuff online yet don't give us your location. It's pretty tough to guess a store for you. Try Best Buy or the mall. Or figure out a way to buy stuff online.

What is the best Canon macro lens..........????

Hung N

I'd like to get one for my canon 350D Xt. Can you tell me one please ?
Monye doesnt matter.
Thanks.

Answer
If I'm not mistaken, the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens is the most highly regarded macro lens in the Canon lineup. I have one, and let me tell you- it IS a great lens! For more information, here are a couple sites that have reviews for this particular macro lens.

Canon 1000D vignetting and review about Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD MACRO lens.?

king

How can I do vignetting in the 1000d?

and is Tamron AF70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD MACRO, a good lens to be used with 1000d? If someone have used please let me know the results.

Thanks all in advance

Answer
The Tamron is an adequate budget lens. It is not as good as the Sigma 70-300mm APO, but the Sigma costs more! The cheaper non-APO Sigma is not as good as the Tamron.

The Tamron will start to get soft past 220mm or so. If you got the Sigma APO it will start to get soft after 250mm or so.

You might be better off getting the Canon 55-250mm IS. 250mm is plenty long enough.

@Jens, you can't compare the optical performance of two lenses based on the specifications. Just because you thought the Sigma was crap does NOT make another lens from another manufacturer crap! How on Earth does that makes sense!!!

I got this canon 5d mark II and the lens makes this noise.?

orsche1002

The lens is a 24-105. The time that it does make the noise is when the live display is on or when you want to take a picture. Its not the focusing noise it is this other noise. I tried to do some sample video and the noise was in the background. It sounds like a weird insect flying around kind of noise. Is this normal? What can I do?

Thanks

Answer
It is normal if you have the IS feature turned on or the lens is auto-focusing.

To produce noiseless video, you will have to shut off the IS and auto-focus feature. Both the IS scheme and the auto-focus motor make some noise that is amplified by the cameras body and transfered to the tiny built in microphone on the camera.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=149&modelid=11924

Most producers of video only use the on-camera sound as reference and dub in voice, sound effects, music and Foley later during post production

canon camcorder lens on 5d mark ii?

Cecilia

i love the quality of the hd movie on the 5d mark ii but the photo lenses aren't right for videos at all.

i don't want to buy a lens and have it not fit so does anybody know if it will? if not what movie lens would? thanks!

Answer
The EOS 5D Mark II uses a full-frame 24x36mm CMOS sensor for all the images it produces, whether they are still photos or movies. This sensor is approximately 10 to 20 times the size of the image sensors used in most HD camcorders regardless of cost. This sensor size difference means that for any given combination of aperture value, subject distance and angle of view, images from the EOS 5D Mark II are going to have much shallower depth of field than images from a conventional HD device. The situation is somewhat similar to the comparison of an 8 x 10 format view camera to a 35mm SLR.

This difference in the look of movies created by the EOS 5D Mark II is part of the reason why this camera is embraced by creative professionals. Together with the wide selection of interchangeable EF lenses, the relatively large imaging format of the EOS 5D Mark II creates a look that cannot be duplicated by any other movie capture device on the market today.

18- 135 or 18- 200 lens? (canon)?

Angela

Which should I get? I can only get the old 18-135 (NOT the newer STM),
Or 18-200 ( which doesn't have USM, a con for me.

I've been told even the old -135 has better quality than -200 .

But-- is longer range more important?
Also I learned -135 is a kit lens for some bodies so would -200 be a greater deal?

Will use only this lens I choose , for travel, etc.
Thanks!
The 18- 135 costs P12,500 and the 18- 200 costs P 22,000. Please help!!! Which would be a betters value for money purchase?

Answer
My Nikon came with an 18-105mm lens that was all I needed for 3+ years, so the 18-135mm lens may be all the lens you will need for a while. The extra reach of the 18-200mm may be nice to have in certain circumstances, but they may be rare. I'd get the 18-135mm and use the rest of the money to start saving for a prime lens.

18-200 L lens by Canon?

argentino

Has anyone heard or seen a Canon 18-200 L lens? My co-worker said she has one. I have looked everywhere and still haven't found one. A long or a photo p hi kg he nice.

Answer
You are right.

What they may have done is mistake IS for L on the lens

The "L" stands for "Low Dispersion" glass

The only 18-200 mm with special optics is the Nikkor AF-S 18-200 mm ED lens

ED lenses: Nikon developed ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass
