Lens suggestion for Canon EOS 60D?

Steven

i have the canon 60d with the 18-200mm lens that come together with the camera.

i want to shoot everything (wide, macro, bokeh, tele).
Please suggest me lens, that each of it costs less than $500.
i mean, not all combined is $500.
each one of it not more than $500. So it means if i want to purchase all, i may spend $2000

Answer
You already have a lens that can be used to shoot wide and tele. Although not the widest available, you can use the 18mm end of your 18-200mm zoom for landscapes and while not the longest focal length the 200mm end of the 18-200mm zoom is often adequate for some sports.

For true macro photography you'll be looking at either the Canon EF-S 60mm f2.8 Macro USM ($469.99) or the Canon EF 100mm f2.8 Macro USM ($599.99). Either of these lenses will give you a 1:1 (life-sized) reproduction ratio. Take a picture of an ant that measures 20mm long and it will be 20mm long on your sensor.

If you want to go wider than 18mm then look at the Canon EF-S 10-22mm f3.5-4.5 USM ($859.99).

If you want to go longer than 200mm and get really good image quality then look at the Canon EF 300mm f4L IS USM ($1,499.00).

All prices from the Canon website. I did find one worth considering for under $500.00.

In my opinion buying another highly compromised variable aperture zoom lens that will duplicate a lot of the focal length you already have with your 18-200mm zoom just isn't a good way to spend your money.

Always remember this: "A good lens isn't cheap and a cheap lens isn't good." Lenses are really an investment since with reasonable care they'll outlast you. I still use a 24mm wide angle I bought in August of 1972.

For the record, bokeh is not something you shoot. Its a Japanese word that, translated, means "pleasing blur" and is used to describe the out of focus highlights in the background. Its a product of the lens design and its quality depends on the number of blades used to make up the diaphragm inside the lens. The more blades the rounder the opening and the smoother the bokeh.
