Hello all!
We have been looking for a new HD Camcorder and also having a look at maybe getting the Canon 550D. Can anyone advise how good the video filming is on the 550D? How does it compare to a mid range HD Camcorder? We're just wondering if it's good enough whether it's worth purchasing the HD Camcorder.

I have the Canon 7D which is essentially the same as the 550D when it comes to HD video recording. The be honest, the lack of depth of field focus is no match vs. any camcorder. The focus is pretty much fixed once you start rolling the recorder. You can zoom in and out while it's recording, but you'll lose focus. This is not practical if you shoot a kid running around on the field. This is a handicap inherited by Single Lens Reflex system.
