i want to know how much zoom a 50-200mm camera lens has in terms of optical zoom (ex: 15x optical zoom)

thanks

Answer
I'm not sure they understand your question.. a point and shoot with 15x zoom would typically range from about 30-450. quite a bit more zoom than a 50-200mm lens for a dslr

What is a good starter DSLR camera and lens for taking pictures of nature?

I guess my budget for this would be for around $700 total (maybe a little more). I want really nice, sharp pictures (I do understand that I will most likely also need to use photoshop)

Answer
starter DSLR cameras are called Entry Level DSLRs.

There are dozens of such cameras that would suit a beginner. The brand is irrelevant. Here's a list with reviews: http://www.dpreview.com/products/search/cameras#criterias=SpecsCoreParams&includeDiscontinued=No&sort=lowestPriceFirst&view=list&page=1¶mSpecsCoreParamsBodyType=CompactSLR%2CMidSizeSLR%2CLargeSLR

"I want really nice, sharp pictures" - sorry this has nothing to do with the camera, or using Photoshop.

Only a skilled photographer can take nice sharp pictures. Of course there is nothing to say you won't be able to learn the skills required. But if you are expecting the camera to do it all for you, then you are sorely mistaken.

Most of a good image's quality is down to the skill of the photographer, the quality of the lenses comes next, and way down on the list of factors which lead to good photos is the camera body itself.
