Question about Nikon DSLR camera lenses?

Can every model of Nikon cameras fit every type of lens? sorry if that doesnt make sense but say you have a Nikon D800 and a Nikon D90. Can the lens on one of them fit onto the other camera?

Yes. All AF, AF-I and AF-S lenses will fit both the D90 and D800.

Because the D800 is a full frame camera, it automatically crops the image frame if you use one of your DX lenses. FX lenses can be used on both cameras.

Hi. :) I am purchasing a Canon 5d Mark iii, and would like to get a few lenses for this camera. I think it would be a good idea to get around three, maybe a simple 50mm, a zoom lens and/or telephoto, and possibly a portrait lens. What three canon lenses would you suggest? I have having difficulty choosing which lenses I want. So basically my question is, what three canon lenses do you think would be most necessary and appropriate for a DSLR? If you had to have only three lenses for your DSLR, what would they be. Thank you! :) Also, I have a budget of around $2,500-$3,000 for these three lenses. I was thinking about getting a relatively inexpensive telephoto for around $1,500 then using the remaining budget for the two other lenses.

Before buying any lens you must first determine what kind of photography you do the most and then buy the lens that best suits that type of photography. Buying a lens based on someones recommendation in here will likely result in you wasting your money. Also, only Canon's EF lenses can be used on a full-frame Canon DSLR.

What makes a DSLR camera good?

I would like to be a professional live concert photographer, and I'm looking for a nice DSLR camera, and I expect to buy a good lense for indoor live concert shooting.

I've been looking at all different cameras. Nikon D40, D60, D90, Canon XSI, and what I'm realizing is, it seems that what really makes the photographs great is the lense more then anything. All these camera bodies seem pretty much the same. So, my question is, should I buy a more affordable Nikon D40 or affordable Rebel, and spend the real money on the lenses?

Seriously - pretty much all of the dSLR cameras out there are really quite decent (all the current versions anyhow). Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus - they all make good gear - they all make some decent (often excellent) lenses (but they also make some stinkers), and they all now have relatively large sensors.

The real magic lies with the person using the camera - do they have an eye for photography, do they know how to set up the camera to capture what they want to show in their pictures etc...Sadly - this is the area I struggle with most - but am working on. It is rarely the camera's fault. Now when I was shooting film - I could blame the camera on occasion since I had no way of previewing what I had shot - but with digital - it's largely up to the operator to get the best out of the shot.

You are right though - the lens is one of the most critical aspects of the total system. Put a sub-par lens on a Canon 5DMkII and you will get lousy pictures. But similarly, put the best lens on the most expensive and full featured camera and hand it to someone with no real photographic vision and you will end up with perfectly focused, very high resolution pictures of something completely uninteresting and uninspiring.

Can I interchange Canon lenses betw/ my DSLR and Film SLR camera?

I have two Canon Rebel SLR cameras. One is digital (about 2 1/2 years old) and the other is about 4 years old and is a film camera. I just realized that my 28-80 lens from my film camera seems to fit on my digital SLR. Is it okay to put it on there? Is there a reason why I should or should not? Thank you for any advice.

You certainly can use the lenses from your film camera on your digital. As long as they are an EOS mount lens. All Canon cameras and lenses from 1987 on will be EOS mount.

You can not however use the EFs lens that came with your digital SLR on your film camera. It would cause vignetting and could damage the mirror on your film camera. The EFs lenses are specifically designed for the crop sensor DSLR's.

Typically most people will only have one or two EFs lenses though. The 18-55mm lens that comes with the camera and maybe a 10-22mm wide angle lens. Most other lenses will be the EF lenses and will work on both film and digital.

Bottom line is you can use all EOS lenses on your digital both EF and EFs. On your film you can only use the EF lenses.

How should I go about selling my DSLR Camera?

I'm trying to sell my Sony A-300 DSLR Camera with extra lenses, external flash, cable releases, carrying case, and everything. It's all very nice and new, no problems. I cannot do eBay and Craigslist keeps sending me spam. What should I do?
I am looking to sell everything for about $700

I think there is a way for you to sell on Amazon and you may want to check that out.

Also, below are 2 links to photo.net, that has a large online photo community and there is a classified area where you can sell equipment. First link goes to the main web page for the site and the 2nd link should take you to the page where there is DSLR sales.

Another option to check is in your coummity, look for local camera clubs and colleges that have photography classes. You can make a flyer and get the info to these groups that could have an interest.

Is anyone aware of compensation given by Wolf-Ritz camera for their now invalid DSLR camera/lens warranties?

I bought a camera in July 2012 from Wolf-Ritz camera in my home town. I decided to purchase a warranty to go along with my DSLR camera and the two additional lenses I procured there. So I got an extensive warranty covering three years of complete service, in order to cushion the new glass I was carrying around with me.

I went into the same store right before it closed in October of 2012. I was given a pamflet by a sales-person, who explained the law firm mentioned below was conducting all returns and payments for Wolf-Ritz, and to make a court 'plea' as they said with them. Unfortunatly I lost this paper, and cannot find much information online in order to help me.

With out the warranty card, you are pretty much out of luck unlkess you could get a copy from the stores records. Even then you don't stand much of a chance getting anyone to honor the ritz warranty and by the time all of the large crediters are paid a portion of what they are owed there will be no $$$ left for the consumers for any kind
of refund.

I own a canon point and shoot and I would like to get a dslr that can produce better quality. What are some good entry-level dslr cameras? What about lenses? Any information or tips for a beginner?

Stick with Canon. They produce excellent quality cameras. And you are familiar working with them.

Look into the:

- Canon XS
- Canon XSi
- Canon T1i
- Canon 7D

Depending on your budget...

The 1st two are entry - intermed. level offerings. The next two are more intermediate (as is the Canon 50D).

I think I am going to get the Cannon EOS 1000D (rebel XS). This will be my first DSLR camera. But Im not sure how many different lenses there are, what they are called, and what they all do.

There are well over 100 different lenses Canon makes for the XSi, and that doesn't even include lenses made by other companies.

Theses lenses can be broken down into four basic categories:

WIDE ANGLE: The human eye sees the same as roughly a 50mm lens. Wide angle lenses have focal lengths of less than 50mm. This means that looking through one of these lenses you'll see more than the human eye. These are good for landscapes, architecture and pictures of groups of people.

NORMAL: These lenses have focal lengths roughly in the 50-100mm range. They see approximately what the eye sees so they're good for subjects where proper perspective is essential. These lenses are good for portraits.

TELEPHOTO: These lenses have a focal length of over 100mm. They have "zoom". In other words, a bird far away will look closer.

SPECIALTY: These are lenses like fish-eye and macro.

Once you've categorized them by focal length, the differences come down to build quality, price, sharpness of the optics, and how well they perform in low light.

For a beginner like yourself, the 18-55mm kit lens will probably be fine. If you have the money you may also want to add a decent telephoto like the 70-300mm ($600). You may also want to pick up the 50mm f/1.8 for $100 as it does well in low light and will give you lots of background blur.
