What lens fits the Pentax K-x?

and which camera has the widest available lenses:
Sony Alpha A380
Olympus E-620
Pentax K-x.

Thanks!
I have decided for the D5000 but now I am considering other options because of price...But I know I have to look on the system and its future.

Answer
The Pentax K-x uses the "K" lens mount first introduced in 1975 so any "K" mount lens ever made can be used on the K-x. If its an auto focus lens from circa 1988 it will auto focus on the K-x as it should.

The Pentax K-x was chosen as the 2010 "Best DSLR Entry Level" by the 'Technical Image Press Association'.

Here is a review of the K-x:
http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/0510pentax/index.html

In my opinion a comparison of the Pentax K-x and the Nikon D5000 finds the D5000 lacking. The Pentax K-x has:

1) A CMOS sensor.

2) Live View.

3) HD Video.

4) Double/multiple exposure capability of from 2 to 9 pictures on a singlr frame with Auto EV Compensation.

5) A focusing motor in the camera body.

6) Image Stabilization in the camera body so any lens used becomes, in effect, an IS lens.

The Nikon D5000 has features 1, 2 & 3 but NOT 4, 5 & 6. If you want auto focus with the D5000 you must buy Nikon's AF-I or AF-S lenses. If you want IS (VR in nikonspeak) you have a limited number of Nikon lenses with that technology. In both cases you pay again and again for features found in the camera body of the K-x.

Current prices w/18-55mm lens from http://www.bhphotovideo.com

Pentax K-x, $499.79

Nikon D5000, $699.95 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Offer ends 9-18-2010.

If you're bored with black cameras, the Pentax K-x also comes in colors.
http://www.pentaximaging.com/slr

The Sony A380 can use all the legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lenses dating back to 1985 and they will auto focus as they should.

Which Camera should I get?

allykat_42

I currently have a Nikon d5000 which I love but I need an extra camera as well and not looking for something too extravagant so I have picked out a couple cameras that I like the price for what seems good quality and I need to know which one would be better to get out of these:

1) Nikon - Coolpix L810 16.1-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black
2)Sony - Cyber-shot DSC-HX200V 18.2-Megapixel Digital Camera - Black
3)Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2MP DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens

Those are the three I found that I thought were decent. Any decent respectable honest opinions appreciated please. Thank you.

Answer
Why on earth would you buy a Canon DSLR when you have a Nikon? That would be a terrible idea.

Consider buying another D5000 or a D3000 - used, of course.

DSLR - What company (Nikon, Canon, etc.) is the best quality for a photography camera?

d5000 dslr camera with 18-55mm lens - black on Nikon D3100 Review
d5000 dslr camera with 18-55mm lens - black image

ashleyoliv

I've been interested in photography for quite a while. But I haven't gotten around to buying a professional camera. I have a digital camera that I've used that is very poor quality. I usually use my phone camera. DSLRs (photography cameras) are extremely costly and expensive.

I need a company that is best quality.
I need a place to buy them for lower prices.

Thank youuu!(:
<3

Answer
Pros use Nikon and Canon for a variety of reasons but they donât use Nikon or Canon consumer DSLRs. Pros can justify the expense of Nikon and Canon specialty lenses where the average consumer cant. Pros make money from the expensive equipment they buy but the average consumer doesnât. Just because pros use a particular brand doesnât mean its better for the average user. Nikon and Canon took hold because of aggressive marketing in which other manufacturers chose not to participate. It doesnât mean there are no other high quality DSLRs available.

If youre shopping for lower prices chances are youre not purchasing a pro camera. A pro camera will run around $2000 minimum.

If you want very high quality images without the added cost of the Nikon and Canon names go for the Pentax K-x. In tests it performs better than the Nikon D3000 and about equal to the D5000. See the comparison
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Image-Quality-Database/Compare-cameras/(appareil1)/331|0/(appareil2)/320|0/(appareil3)/345|0/(onglet)/0/(brand)/Nikon/(brand2)/Nikon/(brand3)/Pentax

The K-x performs better than both the Canon XS and Xsi. See comparison here
http://www.dxomark.com/index.php/eng/Image-Quality-Database/Compare-cameras/(appareil1)/268|0/(appareil2)/185|0/(appareil3)/345|0/(onglet)/0/(brand)/Canon/(brand2)/Canon/(brand3)/Pentax

The K-x outperforms the Canon T2i and Canon 50D See the comparison here

Go to this link and compare the K-x to Canon and Nikon. It outperforms any of their cameras in its price range and better than or equal to some of their more expensive models. Use âCompare Camerasâ
http://www.dxomark.com/

The K-x has Image Stabilization and Auto Focus in the body. These are in the lenses with Nikon. AF is in lenses with Canon. Why pay for IS and AF over and over with each lens you buy? Having IS and AF in the body will save money on lenses for as long as you have the camera. The K-x also has HD video for the price of cameras with no video at all.

Here are price comparisons in your range from B&H Photo except as noted

Pentax K-x w/18-55 $521 HD video
Pentax K-x w/18-55 and 50-200 $625 HD video
Pentax K-x w/18-55mm and 55-300mm $715 HD video
Nikon D3000 w/18-55 $550 No video
Nikon D5000 w/18-55 $700 HD video
Rebel XS (1000D) w/18-55 $530 No video
Rebel XSi (450D) w/18-55 $560 No video

What do you think is the best photography camera to use for modeling?

Answer
What you want is a DSLR camera, you will gain in quality mainly because a DSLR has a bigger sensor than a point and shoot camera. In regards to lens, which is very important, a short zoom is good to start with and later you can add any other lenses that you discover help fit your needs.

There are a number of good brands so don't be sold on the idea one brand is better than another. I would keep your costs down. I would get a DSLR with a short zoom (like a 18-55mm) to start for around $425 to $650. Either a 10MP or 12MP will do just fine.

Below, I listed some links where you can look up reviews and see what camera works best for you. Also I included some links to some dealers so that you can try and get the best price. Some of these dealers have some of these cameras with some nice extras, free shipping is very common, and sometimes they are offering a free memory card and/or camera bag. Sometimes you have to click in the âadd to cartâ button to see the actual price.

Here are some models that I think are well worth researching:

Sony Alpha A230 Digital SLR 10 MP with 18-55mm Lens - $429

Nikon D3000 10MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $449
Nikon D5000 12MP DSLR Digital Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens - $50

EOS Rebel XS 10MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $449
EOS Rebel XSi 12MP DSLR Digital Camera Kit (Black) with 18-55mm IS Lens - $565

Pentax K-x 12MP DSLR with 18-55mm Zoom (has HD Video also) - $550

Hope this helps. Good luck.

What dslr camera is better? Cannon EOS rebel XS, or Nikon D3,000?

I'm getting dslr camera for christmas. Which one is better? I am a beginner but I want decent photos. Which one is better quality and easy to use? Also you can recommend me dslr camera's with a price range on 500-550. Thanks

Answer
In my opinion neither. You can get a whole lot more camera for the same money with the Pentax K-x. The Pentax K-x was chosen by the 'Technical Image Press Association' as the 2010 "Best DSLR Entry Level". Read a review here: http://www.shutterbug.net/equipmentreviews/amateur_digital_slrs/0510pentax/index.html

Here is what you get with the Pentax K-x:

1) A CMOS sensor which gives superior performance at higher ISO settings. Very important indoors when you don't want to use the flash.

2) Live View.

3) HD Video.

4) Double/multiple exposure capability of from 2 to 9 images on a single frame with Auto EV Compensation. This feature opens up a whole new world of creativity.

5) A focusing motor in the camera body. Any Pentax AF lens made since 1988 can be used on the K-x and will auto focus as it should.

6) Image Stabilization (IS) in the camera body so any lens used becomes an IS lens. You could buy a legacy Pentax 50mm lens or 200mm telephoto lens and both become IS lenses.

7) A choice of colors so you don't have to settle for a black camera unless you want to.
http://www.pentaximaging.com/slr

The Nikon D3000 has exactly NONE of the features of the Pentax K-x. NONE! With the D3000 (and D3100 and D5000) if you want auto focus you must use Nikon AF-I or AF-S lenses. If you want IS (Nikon calls it VR) you have to pay for it with every VR lens Nikon offers and it isn't available on all their lenses.

The Canon XS is a two year old model and is thus somewhat behind in technology. It does have a CMOS sensor and Live View but NONE of the other features of the Pentax K-x. With the XS you can only use EF or EF-S lenses. Canon also has their IS in some but not all of their lenses. Like Nikon, you pay for it over and over.

Here are the current prices for the three sw/18-55mm zoom lens at B&H:

Pentax K-x, $489.95

Nikon D3000, $499.95 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Ends 11-20-2010.

Canon XS, $499.99 after a $50.00 Instant Savings from B&H. Ends 11-24-2010.

B&H: http://www.bhphotovideo.com

So you can pay MORE ($10.00 is $10.00) for the Nikon or Canon and get FEWER features or you can save $10.00 and get all the features of the Pentax K-x. In my world that's an easy decision - the Pentax K-x wins.

Few people know that Pentax introduced the first Japanese-made 35mm Single Lens Reflex (SLR) in 1952 so they have a long history with SLR type cameras.

All Pentax DSLR cameras use the legacy "K" lens mount first introduced in 1975. That means you have access to all those old-school manual focus lenses which are plentiful and inexpensive on eBay. Yes, there are limitations when using a 35 year old lens but at least it will be an IS lens on your K-x.

So don't cheat yourself by ignoring the Pentax K-x.

The Pentax K-x is a beginner friendly camera.

ImagingResource
âThe Pentax Kx has enormous value, thanks to its remarkable image and print quality, fine build, and class-leading burst speed, all combining to make one impressive digital SLR camera. The Pentax Kx is a Daveâs Pick. For sheer image quality at a wide range of ISOs, the Pentax Kx is tough to beat, especially for the price.â

DCResource
âThe Pentax K-x is an impressive entry-level digital SLR. It brings very good image quality (especially with a decent lens), snappy performance, tons of features, HD movie recording, and good build quality to the table. Its true there are more Nikon and Canon lenses available. Check the prices. Can you afford all the lenses available? If you can do you plan on buying each and every one? There are more than enough Pentax and third party lenses available for any photographer.

What lens fits the Pentax K-x?

Vernan

and which camera has the widest available lenses:

The Sony A380 can use all the legacy Minolta Maxxum AF lenses dating back to 1985 and they will auto focus as they should.
