Macro Lens for Canon DSLR?

sbou2

I would like a macro lens for my Canon DSLR. Our budget is a little tight this Christmas, so I'm hoping to stay under or around $400, if at all possible. My old macro lens was a Olympus Zuiko Digital Macro lens (35mm). I was pretty happy with it, but now I've switched cameras and I'd like something as good as or better than the Zuiko lens.
Any help would be greatly appreciated(: Thank you.

Answer
Look at this one. It is an excellent one and will match your budget

Canon or Sony DSLR camera?

Mac

Okay, so my girlfriend is getting me into photography. She has been a photographer for a while and recommended taking me to the Sony store for my first camera. However, I've found a Canon Rebel EOS XSi, with an extra lens and equipment.

Which one is better, based on photographic performance?

Thanks for your input!

Answer
Canon's XSi is not the newest camera in the world, which is why you've managed to find one with accessories for a nice looking price. With a lack on knowledge there is the possibility that the accessories coming with the camera you've found are not so hot too (though I could be wrong).

When it comes to Sony SLT's (technically not DSLRs) they suit newbies and gadget phreaks, and offer more bang for the buck than Canon (or Nikon). You'll find there is a great deal of resistance from the brand nazis to anything other than Canon or Nikon, which as Nikon relies so heavily on Sony components is a little lame. So, am I gong to suggest you go out and buy a Sony, well no actually. I'm going to suggest that you find a few camera shops and see how each brand feels in your hands. If it feels right then go for it, whether it's Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Sigma, or Panasonic. It's a bit like choosing a new lover really (is the girl friend trying to tell you something?).

What zoom setting do I use on a Canon DSLR lens to equal 24x on a FujiFilm S3280 camera?

I own a Fujifilm Finepix S3280 24x zoom camera and just got a Canon Rebel t3i DSLR camera. What are equivalent DSLR lens settings for the zoom factor on the Fujifilm camera? I have a couple of additional lenses for the DSLR, but want to compare "apples to apples". Thanks.

Answer
Once you left the P&S arena, you have got to buy different lenses to cover similar focal lengths to your S3280

The zoom lens with the most range would be the 18-200 mm lens (11x) in P&S terms.

I can use four lenses on my dSLR to produce the most focal lengths usually needed when shooting assignments

* 14-24 mm
* 24-70 mm
* 70-200 mm
* 200-400 mm

In P&S terms, those lenses equal about 28x

If you visit this site, you will see what it costs to purchase those four lenses.

When you went from owning a P&S to a dSLR system, you certainly jumped into the deep end of the photographic pool

What lens should I purchase for my new Canon Xsi SLR camera?

Andy Green

I recently purchased a Canon Xsi DSLR camera. However, I only want to purchase one lens for this camera but I am confused on what to purchase. I was looking at a 18-200 or 18-135 lens but want to get feedback on what to get. I only want one lens! I heard Tamron, Canon and Sigma make good lenses but I am torn. THanks!

Answer
If you are set on only one lens, you could do lots worse than the Tamron 18-270. It has a huge range and also image stabilization, which helps a bunch at the longer focal lengths. It is designed for the cropped sensor cameras such as you XSi. I have the earlier 18-250 lens on my older Canon D60 and am reasonably satisfied with it.

Hello, I have a canon DSLR and I have the 18-135mm standard zoom lens. I love it, I've taken some great pictures with it. Thing is, I want to take pictures of wildlife and landscape. So do I need a new camera lens for those?

Answer
For wildlife, most definitely, Animals are notoriously skittish when it comes to people. You want to have access to at least the equivalent of a 400mm lens on a 35 mm camera (longer if you can afford it). You could probably get by with the 18mm focal length on your kit lens for landscapes. Though eventually you might want to get a better lens. (nothing wrong with your lens, but there are ALWAYS better lenses available!)

For landscapes, you might want to try panorama photos, where you take several photos in sequence but with each photo, the lens is moved a little before the shot is taken showing more and more of the landscape as the lens sweeps to the left or right in increments.

Then, if you are very consistent in exposure and focus, you can use special software called a stitching application, which will electronically 'cut and paste' the multiple photos into a single large photo.

An excellent free application for this purpose is called Hugin Photo Stitcher you can find it on Sourceforge here:http://hugin.sourceforge.net/

Good luck!
